'93 having problems
I have a 93 R1 I just recently bought and I seem to be having some problems. The car starts to cut out around 5k-5200, then again at 6k. i just replaced the o2 sensor, as I figured it was bad as my a/f meter was not reading anything. After chaniging it, it shows that the car is running rich all the time, even as the cut out happens. This is my first rotary powered car, so I am not as good at diagnosing these types of problems. I have tried 2 different computers, so I know this is not the culprit. Since I changed the o2 sensor, I know that's not the problem either. I was wondering if perhaps this is an ignition problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The list of mods on the car is as follows: greddy intercooler, profec-b boost controller, APEXi twin chamber blow off valve, APEXi gt catback, downpipe, midpipe. The guy I bought it from said it has an upgraded computer, but he doesn't know which one. I swapped it out with a petit racing one that my friend has. |
if the ECU is piggyback it could just be mapped to be rich at all times for safety precaustions. As you search more you'll learn that running TOO lean is the death calling for a rotary. And since piggyback ecu's are mapped from what you tell them you have, they program it to run rich so just in case you have something more than what they program the ECU for you'll be safe. If it's not the ecu then you may want to be looking toward separating the problems. Do the normal troubleshooting. there is a sticky at the top of the 3rd generation forum that have a few alphabetized links to help diagnose problems such as yours and how to fix them. There are many reasons why you may buck at those certains RPMs. Also are you using a wideband when you look at your AFR guage?
