'93 FD vs. '93 Porsche 968
Interesting comparison of a car that was available at the same time, yet not heard of too much.
http://carpoint.msn.com/compare/choo...e1=968&pt=used I know the 944 line of cars was never really popular with Porche 'purists", but I seem to remember a Turbo S type of the 968 that flat kicked ass! |
The 968 Turbo S was something like 305hp/360tq and lighter than the standard 968. 0-60 of 4.5 and 13.0 quarter. The really hot model was the 968 Turbo RS but only a few were made. Perhaps Porsche didn't want to make a 968 model that outperformed a 911 turbo model.

The 968 is supposed to be one of the best track cars porsche makes. They are expensive to repair however. A clutch job alone can cost over a grand. Also to my eyes they are beginning to look a bit dated from certain angles....ok must of them, but it looks really cool from a couple:) Last year I was thinking about replacing the FD with one. I wanted to find a dirt cheap example with engine problem, then send the block off to be rebuilt by power haus and fitted with their single turbo kit. It's good for something like 450hp and 410 ft lbs of torque at the wheels. Not bad for a car that weights under 3000lbs---AND is durable enough(with the turbo kit) to circuit race.

The 944 S was a NA car(added in '87) and added a 16v/twincam engine. In '89 it was replaced by the 944 S2 which had a 3.0L NA engine rated at 208hp. Hope that clears things up :) |
Originally posted by JspecFD Sure they did. Read what I wrote above. For reference, here's a pic of the standard 968 Turbo S: http://vista.pca.org/stl/968trear.jpg And the front: http://vista.pca.org/stl/968turbo.jpg |
