80k and still pulling hard
I just wanted to let everyone know that my FD hit 80K today on a stock engine, and stock turbos. I run 13PSI all the time and have been doing so for the past 40K miles. She pulls very hard and has waxed everything in town she has come up against including a few 7's. I also can not remember the last time I had a real problem. Now that I think about it I can: at 50K my clutch went, to old and to much new power. Replaced with act and away I went.
My motto is if you take care of her, she will take care of you:D Chris |
nice to hear about an owner happy with the 7. still though, you were crossing your fingers right?
|
knock on a bunch of wood
|
I'm almost at 80k myself w/o any real issues. The only reason I worry is because of this forum of horror stories hahaha.
|
Your FD just heard every word you said. You know what happens now, don't you??
|
Nope<
Do your homework find the weak points in the car and upgrade them the correct way the first time and you don't have a whole lot to worry about. Always put in 93 octane gas, I add a cap of 2 stroke oil in the gas every other fill up, and I use an octane increaser when I use the oil. I am hoping for atleast another 30-40K out of her. Eventually she will die but I am not going to worry about it her dieing everytime I go WOT. Chris |
same here....i have everything you can do to an RX-7 without going single. i have been over 80,000 for some time now and going stong @ 14 psi. and like manatecu said...i did my mods the right way. i think people are just too afraid of this car. it is stronger than most give it credit for.
|
i baby my car and that little son of a bitch gives me a problem everytime i turn my head.clutch went out.coolant leaks everywhere.oil leaks everywhere.this that and the other.but see it always one little thing at a time and it trades off every two weeks or so.nothing major.by the time i get all the kinks worked out,it seems like itll be time for a new motor.and i will have to restart all over again.just like the army, once u get a good tight platoon everyone leaves.

I'm getting close to 80K, so your story is inspiring! My 7 is not a daily driver, but when I do drive her, I'm not afraid to open her up every now and then! I'm on stock engine and turbos, but also stock boost levels, until I can spring for my Power FC!!!Congrats on the long life, and good job maintaining your baby!

I've got 50k on my stock engine and turbos and 13 psi and she runs like a raped ape....I bought her unmodified with 10k miles and the only problems I ever had was the oil pressure sender took a dump and the driver's side power window hangs up
if you do the maintenance upgrades and keep up with everything, this car can be very reliable....if you run Mobil 1, the engine will prob go 150K no problem the only thing I'm worried about is the notorious coolant o-rings.....I'm not sure what can be done to improve the longevity of those o-rings besides keeping the antifreeze fresh (change at least once a year), NOT using the extended life coolant (use the std green stuff), and making sure you never overheat hey manatecu, what part of NC are you in? are you still running your stock thermostat, radiator, and O2 sensor? just curious |
im at 120,000 with a replaced engine, i should be fine until 160 orso, then its time to rebuild.
|
My drivers side window just started hanging up. The rear portion tilts back funny and gets off track. I'll be looking at it this weekend. Congrats to all who have kept their 7's running strong. I agree if your gonna own these cars, you gotta get out and drive 'um. Tom

Water Wetter tends to help out the colant seals. Every little thing helps.

The one key thing I have focused of is cooling. I have an after market radiator, intercooler FMIC, vented hood, downpipe, High Flow Cat, No airbox just K/N's kinda Pettit style. All of these significantly help with cooling. My car usually runs between 80-90C depending on the time of year. I also have an active fan switch (AKA fan mod, so if it starts to get a little high I just turn them on). For those of you who have leaky stuff. If one thing is leaking its a pretty safe bet that they all are leaking or about to leak. Instead of replacing one vac, gas, or coolant hose replace them all and be done with it.
The mods listed above are only a fraction of what I have done but those are the main heat mods. Don't forget if you start opening her up you need a computer. I use a PFS EFI and an apex AVC-R. The last point I want to make is there is no such thing as plug and play computers. Everyone needs an expert to do some tuning. I picked midway between performance and reliability. Just my .02 but then again I have made it to 80K + without alot of problems. |
108k turbos died time for single... original motor.
|
145k on orginal turbos. Still hauling ass.

Originally posted by the_glass_man No, don't do it!!! Water Wetter tends to eat the coolant seals, just like the Dexacool, crap. The best way is to use standard coolant and distilled water. Evans, sounds like it may work well, and you won't ever have to change it either. |
im at 76 and oh got what a horror story im hoping ot flatten out my last few poblems in the next month or so.
|
yeah, could someone explain why exactly Redline watter wetter is bad? how about the royal purple coolant additive?
and also, why is the extended life coolant bad vs the good ole green stuff? |
85k stock motor/turbos using more oil than supposed to but running good. Its my daily driver and see's full boost dailily.
