8000rpm to shoot flames

i have read the other posts about how to shoot flames and i just got my turbos and engine rebuilt (their broken in) and they say you have to get your engine up to 8000rpms so i don't really want to get a rebuild again my blowing the engine by reving it at 8000rpms and a guy asked will it damage your engine doing that and they really never anwsered that question.

so do you have to rev your engine that high to get flames? and will it damage your engine seroiusly by reving it up to 8000rpms?

FDNewbie 04-11-04 12:53 AM

Umm...to my info, it's not really how high you rev...rather, flames are the result of unused fuel being burnt as it exits the exhaust pipe.

First, you gotta be running rich (ie have enough fuel so you can actually leave unused fuel to begin w/). So if your car is not properly tuned, or it's running lean, forget about blowing flames. The only flames you'll be blowing will be coming outta your mouth when you pop your motor lol

The other thing is, now that you're running rich, when you stomp on the gas pedal, and fuel injectors open wide, and great amounts of fuel are being delivered, if you suddenly let go of the throttle, that unused fuel will ignite, and exit the exhaust as a little fireball.

I don't mean to, but I blow a fireball every time I push her hard and slam gears.

Yeah, dont you wish your car would be like in the fast and the furious and shoot 3 feet of flame every time you tap the gas?

Oh god. Those were FLAME THROWERS. Stupid mini spark plug typa things that actually throw up to a 6 foot long flame via the press of a button. That is the EPITOME of rice.

Flame throwers = super gay
Natural fireball = nice forcefed car

you tell em FDnewbie i thought the first one was ok but the second one was pure bullshit

austinsFD 04-11-04 01:26 AM

where do you go in the powerfc to make your car run richer (fuel wise) or do you change it somewhere else?

bro, it's not a setting that says "more fuel" The PFC is a damn complicated peice of equipment. It's a complete stand alone programmable ECU for your car. Do NOT mess w/ it if you don't know how to (and that's referring to how to correctly tune your car, not just use the commander lol)

Example: if you just turn up the fuel and make your car too rich simply to blow flames, hey, it'll work, but you'll also mess up your engine w/ carbon buildup...

Just try not to get caught up in the hype. People wanna do things to their car to make it look "cool" and end up forgoing the practical applications. While that may be a choice you may want to make in certain cases, don't do it in haste, cuz then you may be forgoing safety applications as well (be it safety for your life, or safety to keep your engine's life)

austinsFD 04-11-04 01:39 AM

i only want to do it once so i can see what it looks like and i know there is a bunch of steps to make your car run richer. but i dont know which steps to go though

FDNewbie 04-11-04 01:51 AM

It's gonna be hard to sit in the car to move the gas pedal, and see what it looks like outta the exhaust at the same time ;)

That, and I honestly wouldn't be the best person to tell you how to do that stuff. Ask someone much more knowledgeable than me...one of the forum experts (look at my screen name! lol)

skunks 04-11-04 01:56 AM

ok here is what you gotta do, buy a power fc and turn the deaccel up all the way, then just get to about 7.5-8krpm (which will not hurt a good engine) and then just let off the gas and let it coast down with a straight pipe exhast system. hell you can probally get up to 6krpm and just let off the gas while ni gear and youll probally throw some flames

austinsFD 04-11-04 02:18 AM

thanks skunks

austinsFD 04-11-04 02:20 AM

just for the sake of asking questions will you get bigger flames if you let off the gas at 8k rather than 6k?

FDNewbie 04-11-04 02:20 AM

Skunks, wut's the deaccel do?

Flames are nice :)

On another note, I do make CF exhaust bumper guards (something which will protect against flames as well as soot from normal driving around with a straight pipe exhaust system will do). Even our stock ECU+straight pipe exhaust system will/should beable to throw quite a bit of flames, especially on deaccel in gear. With the power fc, it just richens it up a bit more then stock.

BoOsTin FD 04-11-04 10:37 AM

If you are in just idling, then you need to get up to 8k to shoot flames, at least in my case. However if you are redlining the car while driving, i can shoot flames at around 7k :)

yes I am :)

run a DP,MP,cat back, and ECU. Tune accordingly and you will shoot flames all over from the unburned fuel

B_Rock 04-11-04 12:03 PM

Sometimes I'll pop out a random flame for a good 10 seconds while just cruising 60mph. I also shoot a good one every time i change gears when i'm really on it. I've never seen it personally, except through my mirror, or the reflection from a polished tanker trailer, because I don't let anyone else drive my car.

I'm not saying you're lying...but flames for 10 seconds? Most forcefed cars I've seen don't even really throw flames. They blow fireballs, which last a very VERY short time, like a second or so.

To actually blow a big long flame, and sustained for THAT long...well I'd just go around to the back of my car and check if someone put some flamethrowers in there w/o me knowing lol

different strokes for different folks i guess. plus this is always a fun topic to talk about and our cars do it/should be doing it naturally so take it easy and go with the flow :)

its not really hurting anyone and there is some info gained from this (if you know how to make flames, you also learn how not to ;) )
