8-8-5 boost pattern
Before the eng gets too hot boost pattern is 8-8-10. Then after it heats up pretty good I get intermittent 8-8-5. I read a lot of the troubleshooting tips from other posts\links, but before I tackle that...does anyone have a good theory

atleast you are getting 5 psi. my patern is 8-8-1. i'll take it to the dealership tomorow and see whats wrong with it. i took it to the track and ran a 15.8 with 1 psi :D

You're taking it to the dealership to diagnose a boost problem? Good luck.... I've never gone to a dealership yet, but everyone SWEARS that its the worst place to take an FD to get work done, especially complicated work like boost problems.

the loan company made me buy a warranty from the dealer ship so i'll have to take it there. BTW, is it common for FDs to grind in 5th?

Whatever you do, do not take your car to a Mazda dealer to diagnose boost problems. They will end up saying you need new turbos, guaranteed. And when they rip you off installing those, they will probably screw other things up.
Unfortunately for you, you are a long way from the nearest respected tuner, Rotary Performance in Garland, Texas. Either use the links I gave you in your other post to diagnose it yourself or post in the southwest regional forum and ask for good places to go in your area. BTW, almost no warranties require you to go that dealer. Read the fine print and stop getting ripped off. And yes the 5th gear synchro IS a common problem in 93 FDs. No offense, but it sounds like you did not research this purchase very well. Spend some time going through the forum and the Robinette and Steve Ciriani sites. It will save you a lot of money in the future, if for no other reason than you can direct the dealer how to fix the damn car. |
thanks rynberg.

Good luck zoog, I'm lucky that I live within a 1/2 hour of two good mechanics (Rick's Rotary and Ivan), two parts vendors (rx7fashion.com and M2), and a respected tuner (SR Motorsports).
I feel for you, I lived for 4 fours in Indiana (Purdue) with a 79 RX-7 and had to deal with the local dealer there. They really did try but they still didn't really know what they were doing. And that was on a 79, an extremely simple car compared to the FD. Good luck. |
