500hp street legal?

http://66.216.67.51/product.asp?0=218&1=365&3=736
just wanted to know if that kit is street legal?

moehler 03-22-04 07:10 AM

not if you have emissions testing in your area :). why would you want that much hp on the street anyways? 350 hp is more than enough for many street drivers.

dgeesaman 03-22-04 08:03 AM

When you see midpipe listed, emissions are right out. So 'street legal' technically includes emissions and noise level. Of course, there are other ways to get your car the legal inspection with illegal emission equipment (switch 'em for the test or grease the inspector), but personally I think that's a little too far.

High-flow cat + downpipe still give you a good chance of passing if the car is nice and warm.

alright...i'll prolly switch it for the emissions...and why wouldn't you want 500hp on the street? not saying that i street race or will street race...i just want to drive my kickass car on the road.

Because you were born in 1987 and you would be buried before 2007.

Not trying to start an arguement...so don't bother.

"many" but not all.....I'm wanting 450+ on the street and pump gas ;)

BTW - He is right though, 350rw in a rx7 is very fast. That would be a high 11 second car on race rubber. 500rw will get you way down into the low/mid 10's on race rubber, its definatly not a car for someone that isnt a die hard rotor head

Most likely the ACV has been removed to fit the new fuel rail with the 1600cc injectors. Without all the emission components, adding a hi-flo cat isn't going to help at all if there is any type of emissions testing done on the car.

13luAcid, keep in mind that the price on the site doesn't include installation. Labor costs for all that (if you don't do the work yourself) will be faily expensive.

first learn more about the car and learn to drive with stock hp levels, then upgrade to a beast. I cant drive on the street with more then 350 rwhp (even though im making over 400) because i get no traction in 1st 2nd or 3rd gear without drag radials. Which dont last very long on the street.

That being said, KD Rotary at the time built 51 single turbo cars and 18 ended up totaled in the first 2 months, and a handful in the first year. Keep in mind these are mostly adults not able to handle such a high horsepower car.

Drive at night, hopefully cops dont have their glasses on.

I was already assuming he won't get past 350HP. I should have clarified.

LOSTinWANKELS 03-22-04 05:54 PM

sure its street legal......hey mr inspection guy i droped that 50 dollar bill can u pick that up for me:D

rx7raca 03-22-04 06:57 PM

being able to handle that kind of power and being able to know how to use that kind of power are huge factors.

anyone can drive a car with 450whp, but to be able to know how to control it once you floor it, is the issue.

so if he wants 400whp, of course he can have it, but just dont expect him to be able to handle it.

and like someone said above, the stock fd is a powerful machine straight from the factory. know how to handle it before you even consider moding.

they really need to start remaking fds, there isnt going to be anymore soon.:/

i plan to install everything everything myself(well me and my dad) and i don't plan on racing on the street at all...whether you think i'm bs or not, i got in a wreck a few months ago and that slammed reality smack into my face...i jsut want a fast car that i can also take to the track and run 10s

also, i'm gonna mod it very slowly to learn the power curve and to improve my driving skills. This is a father/son project i'm doing with my dad and i don't plan on it being finished ever but i don't think it'll reach 500hp till i'm atleast 22 which is 5 years from now...

wiblergt 03-22-04 07:15 PM

wow... nutz!

17... HONESTLY... smack a good rollbar in that thing, put some kind of fuel cut safety device, wear a helmet...

and run the PISS OUT OF IT!!! that is the only way you will learn. (400+hp may be a bit much... but who am I)

en...f*#king...joy! it'll be a blast

spoolin93r1 03-22-04 09:22 PM

i have every component on the list, most of which came from the rx7store. i can tell you that it is most definately not emissions legal, but it is street legal. i put down 439 on pump gas and 16psi, and i figured 517hp at the flywheel with 15% drivetrain loss.

would also like to add that those guys definately know their stuff and do some great tuning :)

13luAcid 03-23-04 05:16 AM

yea...i'm gonna love this car...see its a project car for me and my dad...i dun think it'll see 500hp for atleast 5 years after i get it and i don't have it yet=) found one for $3900 and its only about 121miles away from my house i think i'm gonna go check it out...i know it runs but its got a ton of body damage.

of course anything is better then the 88 chevey pickup truck i'm drivin' now...lol its a manual so its somewhat fun to drive...4.3l v6 in my half ton truck...it hates the cold and being wet...its always cold and wet here. cept in the summer then its hot and wet.

here is the car im thinkin' about http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ca...r=&cardist=181

black99 03-23-04 06:57 AM

Actually if it's a project car for you guys I'd be more inclined to tell you to find one with a straight body but motor problems or a blown motor, perhaps even lack of a motor. I personally would rather fix mechanical problems then body damage but it's all what you want I guess.

My personal opinion, do you're homework learn what mods come first, do a couple little mods here and there every now and then, don't rush into 500rwhp, and I'm sure you'll be more than happy with the performance.

13luAcid 03-23-04 10:16 AM

hehe 500hp is just my goal...i found a car with nothing but the fram and suspension for $1000 now thats a project car lol...i might look into finding a car with no engine so i can just buy the race ported engine =) zoom zoom
