4.33 gears, anyone have them?
I just ordered a set of 4.33 gears for my R1 from Mazdaspeed. Anyone have them, opinions?
The main reason I wanted to go with the 4.33s is that I auto-x my car a lot and on the courses we usually run are almost entirely in 2nd gear. Many times 2nd gear is too tall but 1st is too short and jumpy. Shifting back and forth between 1st and 2nd also upsets the car. |
on this subject, what is the rev speed at @80mph, 4.33 rear, stock tire size, 5th gear.
|
My favorite speed calculator:
http://www.mysportscar.com/tools/topspeed.htm Keep in mind that diferent tire manufacturers may have slightly different tire diameters even if the same size tire. It shouldn't make much of a difference in the big picture. Doc |
I think you can just to a straight calculation and figure it out. 4.33/4.1 * rpm @ 80mph now.

ok sorry to hijack the thread more,
stock 5th (0.719) 4.77 @3200 = 69mph 4.33 @3200 = 76mph 4.10 @3200 = 80mph 4.77 @3500 = 75mph 4.33 @3500 = 83mph 4.10 @3500 = 87mph @8k in 5th 172 190 200 with j-spec 0.806 5th 4.77 @3200 = 61mph 4.33 @3200 = 67mph 4.10 @3200 = 71mph 4.77 @3500 = 67mph 4.33 @3500 = 74mph 4.10 @3500 = 78mph @8k in 5th 153 169 179 |

Thanks for the thoughts. Anyone else here have them, anyone auto-x?

1st gear is short enough with the 4.10s i cant imagine 4.33s
|
yeah no kidding. I'm thinking of going to 3.9 gears to make 1st and 2nd more usable.

I bought a set of 4.33 gears from Racing Beat and they are awesome but then again I also installed a KAAZ diff.
They run awesome love it. not too rough 93 FD |
gears
Huero- Do you notice a substantial difference with your Kaaz rear? I really have to pay attention to hard first gear standing starts, otherwise the Torsen rear just seems to be overcome and sends the power to one wheel and then there is just a pile of smoke. I like the added oomph that the lower gear gives, but would like a little more control over it.

Besides the slight clunking noise it does while doing slow turns it feels fine. I really dont notice anything @ 1st gear standing starts. But I did my pillowball bushings and it eliminated alot of the wheel hop I had before. I think that is what blew my stock diff in the first place.

double post :S

What are the stock gear ratios?
|
4.10's
|
4.3...lol...imagine driving a 4.7 final...talk about getting bad gas mileage.
|
yup
|
I have them and got them to compensate for the 275/40/17 tires I was running in the rear.
|
Can someone break down the gear ratios for each of the 5 gears for me? I know I've seen it somewhere but can't find it.

what tire size are u running?

With those gears would it possibly cause me to get less traction in those low gears? I have stock motor and twins with all the bolt-ons and chipped ecu. |
some people want to try to break the 200MPH mark ;)
