Is this 3rd gen worth it ?
 

Wanted to know what you guys thought about this. 94 chaste white,Touring with 70,xxx miles on chasis and its the original motor...5spd manual, All Stock...dealer is asking $17,000..they just dropped the price too .. I remember it being $18,488 like 2 days ago ..The car has been sitting there for about 3 months. I think in the begining they were asking $21,000.. you guys think this car would be worth the $17,000...i think it is.. but i want to see what you guys have to say

Not worth it with a motor that has 70k on it..Show the dealer a '94 FD value from Edmund's and hope to lower the price that way.If not,don't waste your time,there will be much better FD's out there for $17k that don't need a new motor.

that's way too much. especially for having 70k on the original motor and vacuum lines. i wouldn't even bother trying because the dealer will never drop down to a realistic price.

I paid $18,000 for a 43,334 mile stock FD and I think I overpaid... you can definitely find something better...

hmmm..I thought that since it was from a dealer that price was actually agreeable ..The guy I talked to convinced me it was a good deal by showing me the kbb price wich was $22,000...I did ask him if he can lower the price because of the whole motor needing a bebuild soon thing ..but he did not seem to care..

I doubt the dealer is going to listen to him. Even with the whole motor thing. As far as dealers are concerned 70K is the same for all cars when profit comes into play.

I think most FDs with less than 50k and in good condition, getting a price under 18k is doing pretty good. But it all depends on the car and its history.

Well I'm not saying I got ripped off or anything, since I did buy it from an old man, but at the same time I see so many FDs for sale for a few thousand less, near stock, and in super condition. I think if I could go back I'd probably have picked one up for cheaper with a few base mods, rather than spending all the money I have been, doing it myself.

Hows the paint? Interior?

A 94 chaste white touring in good condition is a bit hard to find. If the interior/exterior are in excellent shape, and the car runs and drives well, I think 14-16k is reasonable.

I found an FD for $7000. looks OK but bad engine, is it worth it?? why do so many FDs have bad engines??

Chaste white is very nice but thats pretty steep.

FD's must be cheap in your area.

That is right in the ballpark of what you can expect to pay. Perhaps a bit on the high side.
Take the guy $16,500 in cash and say, "Do we have a deal?" and if he says no, he is an idiot.
Seriously, do you already have financing (or the cash)? Don't go in expecting to haggle the price if afterwards you say, "Okay...now let me see what the bank will do........"

That last question made me laugh. Do you have any idea what you are getting into?

White is a rare color, 94 has the more desirable interior, and 70k is pretty damn low mileage for a 13 year old car.

I think some of you guys are a bit off base here---if this FD is close to stock, and has been well cared for and not ruined with cheap/shitty mods, then it is definitely worth it. I see so many beat-down, ghetto rigged FDs it makes me sad :(.

Well I can say that this thread is making me feel I got a little better of a deal than I thought I had received :)

It's a good price if the car is in decent mechanical shape. It seems these cars keep getting harder to find.

Has it ever failed a smog inspection (carfax checks this)?
Does the motor have good compression?
Does it smoke if you start it with the motor cold?
What tires are on it, and how old are they? (this is an indication of how well the previous owner took care of it)
Does it idle smoothly?
Any clunks or squeaks when driving? Does it track straight?
How are the body panels? Paint finish? Any chips or cracks in the windshield?



Regardless of how many miles an FD has, be sure you've got an extra $5000 ready in case you need to rebuild the motor. It can be as simple as a bad tank of gasoline, or one radiator hose bursting, or the thermostat sticking closed. A nice sportscar is nothing without a running engine.

I bought my 93 CYM with 35K miles on it, and slightly moddified putting 400 to the wheels on race gas for $21,000. I absolutely love the car, now I just have to keep it around long enough to get it completely rebuilt from the ground up :) It's in great shape right now, but unless it's 100% perfect it'll bother me. One thing I hate about cars is they make me strive for 110% perfection every single time. I would buy a Chaste White for 17k, but if it had closer to 50k miles on it.

Sounds like you have a real nice car. If it made 400 to the ground, I'd say it's more than slightly modified ;). You should post up pics of it :)

If the car is clean
with good compression
no shaft play
no leaks
everything works etc....

Then it's a good deal.

The more info you have the more confident you can be about the decision. Just posting color, miles and price isn't going to really help anyone give you an informed decision other than your not getting raped etc....

If this car needs turbos deduct 1500
Engine 4k
AC not working 500
bad paint 3k
etc....etc...

Cars can be a real money pit and for 17k this car should be VERY nice.

21k is way too much for original motor. Although FD price did go up a few thousand since 2005. If they are willing to go back down to 18k or 17k, and everything is stock and looks good. IMO is worth it.

like others said. white is already hard to find. good OEM condition is even harder to find in that color

If dealer is ASKING 17,000, that means they have about 3 grand to play with.

Walk there with like 15k, i bet you take it home that same day.

Is the service history available, will the dealer do a compression test, will they give you some kind of warranty? Come on negotiate-do not drive off the lot with a problem. Get them to make some kind of gesture on the product.
