3RD Gen RX-7 Debate!!!

Alright I know but just to prove it to someone since this would be the place to ask from 1993 to 1995 could you get a FD without Turbos!?

diablone 08-28-02 01:41 AM

No 3rd-Gen RX-7 came without Turbos, any year, any country. Though I have heard of people converting it to NA in Japan.

ROTARYFDTT 08-28-02 01:43 AM

and the consensus is.......NO

RedR1 08-28-02 01:55 AM

stock, NO. there was someone in Cali though (i believe) that comverted their FD to an all rotor :D autocross car. im pretty sure someone has pix of it.

Silex 08-28-02 02:03 AM

Looks like Azrael just lost $500 .

RedR1 08-28-02 02:10 AM

ooOoh, Ausuka :) Evangellion rocks

Silex 08-28-02 02:18 AM

Heheh thank you, thank you....I know I rock...err I mean I know she rocks :). Speaking of Asuka being cool (btw sorry for stealing your thread Mr. Dark ;) ), but I seemed to be her perfect match. Yup, yup, I went to
http://www.animeone.com/avenue/matchmaker/
and it said that Asuka was my perfect match. Now I know what to look out for in a woman lol.

Azrael Dark 08-28-02 03:12 AM

No prob bro....I think some of you misunderstood my post. I was the one who knew there is no way you could get a 3rd gen that was NA and I also knew that it had to have the rotory engine and you could not get a 4cyl version. My friend jake however strongly disbelieved in me.

Silex 08-28-02 03:15 AM

Ahh it's all good man hehe. What are friends for, ya know? They are really there to argue with and to to make sure that they knwo that you are God :D.

maxcooper 08-28-02 03:25 AM

Yup, they were all twin-turbo rotaries. No non-turbo and no 4-cylinder versions were available.

There are a number of FD race cars with NA motors and probably even more with three rotors, but they all came from the factory with a twin-turbo two rotor.

That's right they didn't come in 4 cylinder but they did come in 6 cylinder Twin Turbo form. ;) atleast that's what a lot of dealerships say they are.

Leprechaun 08-28-02 08:51 PM

Hehe the funniest thing is that all ricers that see an FD without a spoiler believe its the "low end, non turbo" You can embarass a lot of peeps with a sleeper touring with no wing. ;)

Azrael Dark 08-28-02 09:05 PM

Too crazy for me....people just have no idea sometimes.

it's so funny when i go out to the spots on friday and saturdays... i usually go with a friend who has a 96 cobra which is actually pretty nice, but i never drive my honDUH, but all the guys with like the american muscle and the higher end jap cars always make fun of the rice boys that come up asking the most retarded questions about their cars... its a riot. there is this one guy we call 'newbie' cause ever since he started coming when he first got his car (91 civic 4 door with lots of LEDs) he has asked atleast one dumb question a night... i dont know, you probably have to be there to think its funny, but if and when i get an FD, i will be ignoring most of the ignorant comments that come my way.... and im sure there will be lots of them for an FD seeing how in the past 2 years i have only seen 3 total FDs crusing the strips around here.... so sad :( *tear*

oh btw, this is my first post with my new avatar;) you like?:D

Quivver 08-28-02 10:07 PM

Yeah I get asked a lot if I have the "turbo" model people think that if a FD doesn't have front and rear spoiler then its not a turbo
One more post til I can change my avitar hehe

Is there a problem with educating people on something they don't know about? It sure seems like there is in your mind.

Quivver 08-28-02 10:07 PM

And 100
Yeah Baby!!!!!!!

Orange!FD 08-28-02 10:20 PM

This thread is degenerating into *that one thread*. Not that that's bad.

BlackR1 08-28-02 10:26 PM

Im taking out my turbo system since im tired of it and carb'ing my FD

DK 08-28-02 10:36 PM

So my car has no front lip & no rear spoiler (I took them off), no rear wiper, and a solid roof ... what does that make me? 3-cylinder Metro motor?

actionhank 08-28-02 10:39 PM

I get all sorts of dumb questions, but i just answer them anyway. I figure, they ask me a dumb question, i give them the answer, they dont ask that dumb quesion again. The most common one i get is if its a V6. Oh well, it really doesnt matter i guess. I guess being an ass is sometimes a lot of fun. I should know, considering thats what i do most of the time. ;)

Rogue 09-05-02 02:32 PM

Questions don't bother me....it's when poeple refuse to believe I'm right when I know that I know far more about the Rx-7 or any car we might argue about than they do. It's usually friends or someone I know. Thats really how this started. BUt oh well I guess theres really nothing you can do. I don't know anyone personsally who has an Rx-7 so i really couldn't prove my point.

MazdaMike 09-05-02 02:50 PM

i always get the people who think i got the "low end" NA rx7 cause i got no spoiler, heh i even had someone say they knew it wasnt turbo cause the TT emblem wasnt on the back (has anyone ever seen an rx with a tt or any turbo emblem on the back for that matter). wither way they find out the truth sooner or later hehe

maxcooper 09-05-02 03:04 PM

I had the common "is that a turbo?" experience the other day. A guy in a white truck pulled up and asked about my car as we were waiting at a light. I gave the "they're all turbos" response and he started to go into how his friend has one without turbos. I said "nope, all the ones with this body style (FD) have turbos, twin turbos in fact -- your buddy could have removed them but that seems unlikely". "No dude, he's got a silver one without turbos." Then the light turned green, thankfully. It is quite weird how people can't get it through their heads. I can see how you might expect that they came in both forms, but a lot of people seem to imagine that they have seen non-turbo ones.

OptusX4 09-05-02 03:17 PM

I always get in such a huff when people fight with me about whether there were non-turbos or not... For some reason they know without a doubt, that there were N/A versions. :wtf:

I went to a dealership that had a touring for sale.
Me: Wow, is this twin turbo? (playin devil's advocate)
Sales puke: Actually, no, this is the luxury model so it has a single turbo.
Me: Cool! How many cylinders?
Sales puke: Oh, it's a V6.

....

Was this at a Mazda dealership, or some other place? I was looking at an FD at a Mazda dealer one time, and when I popped the hood and asked what kind of engine it had (knowing full well exactly what it had), I was told by the salesguy that it was a V6. :)

OptusX4 09-05-02 05:14 PM

It was a mazda used lot.

dclin 09-05-02 05:40 PM

I called up a Mazda dealership once for parts, and when the parts guy asked me what year/model, he asked if it was turbo or non. I naturally replied all were turbos, and he countered with a 'uh uh - there were non turbos'. I did not even bother pressing the arguement, and just told him mine was a turbo equipped model... :D

MazdaMike 09-05-02 05:46 PM

xplicit, what rims are those. sorry OT

MazdaMike 09-05-02 05:46 PM

ahh sorry about the sig

Heh heh....you should have told him you have the non-turbo...then let him try to find the "non turbo" parts you were looking for. I wonder how long it would have taken for him to figure it out :D

Goober 09-05-02 06:33 PM

In the summer I usually go around to all the used car lots in seattle and check out what they have. I've been lucky to see a few used FDs around and I've have played dumb with the salesman more then a few times. I've been told that that engine was a special type of engine but couldnt think of the name... That it had a V-6 and that the car is going to go up in value since it was in the fast and the furious.

silver93 09-05-02 08:44 PM

it drives me crazy - i've had 2 people insist they really like the convertible FD -
me :"uh....they didn't make a convertible- there is one somewhere, but it's custom - "
them: "no, man, really, my friend has one, its awesome"
me: " uhhh...yeah, dude - ok - (fucking idiot)"

then the classic - "oh, yeah, i like the green ones" "they don't make green" "no, really, i saw itmyself" "ummmm...ok, you're right, i'm an idiot"

I am glad to hear someone likes the "green" ones since that is what I have. If I didn't know the name of the color, I would call it green most of the time, so you can't blame these folks for their mistake. Perhaps Mazda should have called it Montego Green. ;)

:hahaha:

So, by this line of logic, I should be able to go out and buy an old Pontiac Trans-Am, and expect it to go up in value because the car was in "Knight Rider"?

Wow, the things some people will say to get you to buy a car.... Does it fly too? :)

yeah, personally i think it looks blue - but i'm color blind, so what do i know! but still, it drives me crazy when you explain the whole blue/green thing to them, blah blah, but they insist "oh, no, you're wrong, cause i saw a green one! you don't know what you're talking about"
