3mm ceramic mazdaspeed apex seals?
 

hey guys

has anyone used 3mm mazdaspeed ceramic apex seals on the fd?

any comments? long life? perfomance?

i have heard that since they dont expand they dont cause compression(starting ) issues
any commends on that?

or should i just go for the 2mm ceramic?

I don't believe mazdaspeed makes ceramic apex seals.

Having said that, ceramics actually expand more than standard apex seals, thus the necessity for additional clearancing when building a motor with them.

thats strange, my supplier says they are mazdaspeed...or maybe he meant mazda?

and he told me the exact opposite thing

not exactly sure on the composition of the ceramic seals but generally ceramics tend to have a lower thermal expansion coefficient, hence will expand less than most metals.

What are your goals? The OEM 2 piece seals have served me well, up to 25 psi on my 67mm 500R.

Btw, I recently build a motor with the NRS ceramics and spent quite a lot time with additional clearancing....apex seal to corner seal, apex seal to rotor housing width etc

my ideal goals? a solid engine for life

but back to reality im looking to run around 700rwhp for next year with a t04z hks turbo.

i ve orderred my engine already from a very reputable shop but i was searching and searching for 3mm ceramic apex seals by mazdaspeed but i couldnt find anything so i was thinking if this shop made a mistake ..deliberately or accidentally

He might be refering to Ianetti ceramic apex seals which are sold by Mazdaspeed Motorsports here in the states.

Search for the thread "NRS ceramic seals" and then decide for yourself. I put these in my 20B. FYI - they're better priced than the Ianetti ones.

Isnt ernieT just using some atkins 2mm that have been ceramic coated?? I could be wrong but that is what i remember. With your hp goals I see no reason to take a chance, might as well go with what has proven to work.

i did some researching on the IANETTI seals.. everyone seem to love them...out of interest.. how much do they cost? dont seem to find any prices on the web

they are expensive. I have been in the process of rebuilding my motor, seems like there were two kinds of ceramics by ianetti, silver and gold. They seem to have discontinued the silver series and are only offering the gold now, which i believe are over 1500 bucks for all 6

As far as i know theres only one type of ianettis, no gold no silver or platinum:lol:

they have been serving me well since. their price is double of what you are referring and 3 times as much if you are buying from re-amemiya

Dan beat me to it, I've heard the Ianetti seals called mazdaspeed before since that's who you buy them through.

Go with NRS over Ianetti seals. They're MUCH STRONGER, trust me. Also, you can clearance the seals much tighter than any metallic seal. The only important clearance to pay attention to is the housing width...
