3d FD, in progress

Hey guys, i'm teaching myself how to use more intermediate maya functions, so i figured what better thing to model than the sexiest car on the planet, an FD!

So here it is, this is my progress so far tonite:

cool! You said your using Maya? is that anything like Rhinocerus? A friend of mine is pretty good with that little program. He is learning all sorts of 3D modelling stuff down at the San Fran art Institute.

looks pretty schwet man, I wish I could do that....

fd3s93 03-05-04 02:51 AM

WOW! thats skills! but for the style..its too busy imo.

ioTus 03-05-04 02:51 AM

Yeah its similar to Rhinocerus, but more emphasis on mid production, from beginning the modelling, advanced model texturing, and main focus on animation.

My understanding is they used variations and modifications in Maya to make movies like Toy Story and Monsters Inc.

Yeah id like to do a stock FD. if i can find some good side profile, top profile, and front profile of the same car i could do it.

These were the only blueprints i could find for it. I think its got the feed front bumper or something. I donno. But i just wanna learn how to model these car things :-)

What are you modeling this in nurbs or sub-d or Poly's ?? Also the seam of the front bumper is small and at the top of the wheel well, it wraps around to the side...
The compound curves of the FD, that make it so "Sexy" are difficult if not impossible to jusge from perspective views, you almost need a scan, or a couple of measured camera offsets and lens mesurements of some perspective views to get them perfect... It's a task I've attempted a couple of times... but ran out of time / patience for it... :D

Repost  sorry !

Not sure what you mean about the seam, i'm only getting the surfaces down right now i will join and smooth them later.

I'm using nurbs, mostly birail function.

Looking good ioTus would like a large copy of the finished product.

DCrosby 03-09-04 02:00 PM

Here's kind of what I meant... the pieces need to be fashioned like the body panels since they're going to refelct light at the seams... it won't look right if you make it one huge piece, and cut out the doors and windows...https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...postid=2761869

Thats way cool, but I would ditch the front bumper and so more or a simpler lines. Just me thought.

Thats looking really sweet man. I can appreciate all the work that goes into something like that, I just recently finished making a CAD model of a rotor, so I know it can be very very time consuming. Nice work.

You can check out my thread on the rotor if you want. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ight=CAD+rotor

Iotus, it's starting to look good. I used Maya on my R1000 SGI box when I did modeling and simulation..
