3 basic mods
I had the 3 basic mods done to my '93... namely, down pipe, cat back, and K n N filter. I've heard from folks, that these are the basic mods to do if you are not planning to change the ECU and other stuff. I may plan to do further upgrades later on, but for now, I'll leave it at that. My question then is, with these 3 mods, do I still need to do anything else as a result of these mods? For example, do I need different kinds of spark plugs, wires, pulleys, etc... ? Thanks in advance for the help.

nope :D
nothing else needed at this point. just make sure you do regular maintenance... check your plugs and replace them as needed, fluids, etc. |
If it hasnt been replaced already, i'd replace the AST. Thats a common problem with the 7's. And also, if they havent been replaced either, check you vaccum hoses to see if they are brittle. If they are, i recommend getting new ones. After all, you dont want one little hose ruining your turbo's do you? Do these, and it would help.
These are pretty much little reliability mods for an FD, no performance gain at all. |
i was just saying that no more mods are needed to support what he's done (performance wise)... but yeah, the reliability mods should be done :D sorry about that

Boost gauge and water temp gauge. Enjoy driving your car!

are you experiencing any boost spiking? I was with only an intake and a catback. Then again I also replaced all the vacuum lines ,intercooler couplers and most of the gaskets on the throttle body and upper intake manifold.
I suggest you change all that out because it may be a performance mod as far as perhaps regaining lost horsepower.I remember reading a Import Tuner mag and it had a 3rd gen in the power pages. They got a baseline and it was about 30 horses short of where it was supposed to be at.They replaced all the vacuum lines and wouldnt you know it.They regained the 30 horses or so at the wheels.Just goes to show that basic maintenance goes a long way. I would also recommend a boost controller for safety. After all its cheaper to pick up a 300 greddy profec than its is to fork out 3 grand on a engine rebuild. |
thanks guys... yeah, that's kindda what I figured. No more additional mods to go along with those basic 3. And yes, I neglected to mention that I already have done the other mods to it too. I switched all the turbo hose to silicon... I also changed the standard clutch line to SS, I also have a PF boost gauge and HKS turbo timer. However, I haven't done anything to the AST. Could you please elaborate on that? Not quite familiar with that... Also, I don't notice any boost spiking. What are the signs for that? and the fix?
