3 bar map sensor questions

okay, i know most people use the gm map sensor for higher boost apps. i found a place that sells the denso unit that comes with the a'pexi boost controller kit for $149. the gm sensor usually runs anywhere from $75-100. i really don't want to have to worry about mounting a different sensor and splicing the wires to make it work when i can have the ease of plug-n-play.

i was just wondering what you guys would do. also, if you use the gm sensor, where can i get it and the plug? and what are the part numbers?

thanks

paying $50-$75 MORE just to save the 5 minutes of labor (splicing wires) on you end is a little rediculious. i would have to look up the part number on it as i dont remember off my head.

i'm just a sucker for simplicity. i don't mind the wiring and such, but i always end up getting different part numbers for the gm sensor and noone will tell me what connector i need, or what wires go where, etc. at least if i got the denso unit, i'd know it worked and there's nothing to screw up

Dont know the part number but you can buy the GM sensor directly from the RX7store....

BTW - Can you post or pm me the info on where you found the Denso sensor?

Thanks,
STEPHEN

screw it, it's only $50 and i don't have to worry about it. plus i trust denso more than i do GM! lol

shane racing told me they had them in stock for $149 or $159, can't remember which one. pretty sure it was $149 tho. you'll have to call. i got the number at www.srmotorsports.com

Didn't we already have this conversation?

Learn how to splice some damn wires man. It's not a BIG DEAL.

You use a soldering gun and you solder two wires together. It is functionally not different.

You trust Denso more than GM to make a simple pressure sensor. How's that for bunk?

spoolin93r1 01-21-04 11:07 PM

yes, i understand how to solder, i know it's not hard. but it's not worth me soldering the wrong shit and potentially messing something up. and yes, i do trust denso more. i've never had any good luck with anything GM

okay, i have an electronic autometer boost gauge that i was trying to sell for $100. i got to thinking that the map sensor from it might work. it read up to 25psi and 30in of vacuum. i could just cut off the harness that was included and have the right connector. it looks identical to every pic of the gm sensor i've seen. i just don't know if it's a 3 bar or not. it's obviously more than a 2 bar or it wouldn't be able to read to 25 psi. does anyone know if it will work?

here's a pic

It's a completely irrational argument and fear, spoolin'.

The GM sensor is f'ing fine.

You've been conditioned to think JDM is better and not fabricating is better. Trust me, that's not how to reach the goals.

I really don't understand what the big deal is here. How do you plan on messing up the wiring on a THREE wire sensor.

I remember buying my Denso unit for $120. After that, select option 1 on the PFC.
