2nd turbo creates huge jerkyness

Not the most descriptive title ever, but this is the feeling the car is giving.

Here is what happens... stick the car into second, and put my foot half way down, so it accelerates (about half speed not full). As soon as the second turbo kicks in (around 4500 rpm) the car gets really jerky. as if the turbo is trying to kick in but can't. If you then put your foot down, it splutters a bit and then starts to accelerate.

2nd turbo just doesn't seem happy at all. Any ideas why this could be? Is this the sign of a turbo on its way out? Or something else not so serious!

Have spent £12,000 on these cars in the last month, its getting a bit silly!

What does your boost gauge read when it's sputtering? If you don't know, you need to put on a gauge and find out.

Does it also happen in 3rd?

There are a lot of things happening with the sequential system. Here's an overview:

I would suggest starting with the Turbo Control system. It's controlled by two solenoids and both of them need to operate properly for the system to work as designed.

thanks for all the advise. today I looked at the oil and it was looking quite thin. topped it up with some new stuff a d took it for a drive and suddenlyits fine. is this coincidental or could poor oil have caused it?

Coincidental.

The problem is almost certainly not in the turbo itself or related to oil.

Some turbo control problems only show when the underhood temps get high, if I had to guess that's part of it.

o thats not good news. I ran it for 20 minutes pretty hard and things se.seemed ok. bought a boost gauge today just gotta work out how to fit it lol

so we all quite sure this wasn't related to the oil? sorry to bang on!
