2nd-3rd Missed Shifts

Alright is there any thing out there to help this and fix the slop? I have had the car for a few months now and am getting sick of missing 3rd when Im hard on it. I know that transmission flex is part of the problem.
I must not know how to use the search, I looked with no returns in the archives.

I think your just really bad at shifting :P hehe, jokes! Try changing the transmission fuild.. it should make gear changes alot smoother and easier...

Short shifter and mabye trannie mount.

Transmission fluid is fresh Royal Purple and a brand new 3rd gear with a new little nub that supposed to help guide into 3rd.
Which tranny mount and Ill do engine mount while Im at it. And here I am trying to sell this thing too.

Short shifter. Do it now or pay later with a broken 5th gear synchro...

Maybe a torque brace? I have mine on the way and should get here by Friday. It should help with the twisting motor and tranny under torque, and I've read that it smooths out shifts dramatically.

Have your differential and motor mounts checked out. Also look for cracks in the powerplant frame. It's also worth checking the shifter bushings and wave springs. You should not be having a problem with this if these parts are in good condition.

There is no transmission mount. I have no idea why a short shifter would help either. A torque brace or tranny brace can make a substantial difference, but I strongly recommend making sure the main motor and diff mounts are good before applying new parts to the setup.

You don't say how you are missing it, but the most common is going to 5th from second. If this is the case check your motor mounts and replace shifter bushing/spring and spindle select with the upgraded part available.

AbbotD 03-13-07 10:08 AM

Second to 5th is what I hit when I am doing 8k shifts unless I really really give a good loooong pause.
The shifter bushing and spring brand new. KDR welded the frame back up(atleast I think it was this part) So Ill check motor mounts this weekend but I do not feel a whole lot of play in the motor(ie motor mount). Worth checking I guess.
Where is a good place to find the tranny brace or torque brace? Along with where should I look for cracks in the power subframe?
Really thanks for the help. Maybe just maybe you prevented me from selling this car. Buy the way for $9500.

One of the best things (not mentioned here) is to push the shifter with your palm open handed (instead of gripping it with a closed hand) as your less likely to to force the shifter towards the fifth gear position and the shifter will follow it's normal pattern to the 3rd gear position.

I should have said aftermarket trannie mount. I have delrin motor mounts solid trans mount and poly diff bushings with diff brace. Yes there is noise but no vibration and third is were it should be. I know this setup is not for everyone but works for me.
