2005 Rx7

Check out this month's Road & Track to see artists rendering of 2005 RX7. That's right RX7! The car will be based on the RX8's platform and will be contigent on the success of the RX8. Will be a naturally aspirated genisis rotary with 280 hp. To me it resembles the Audi TT.:blue:

R Xplicit Aug 19, 2002 11:56 AM

genesis or renesis? just wondering, because, if i am not mistaken, the rx8 has the renesis engine.....

for the 7's sake, i hope that the rx8 does well...

ttpowerd Aug 19, 2002 11:59 AM

I'll look for it when i get off work!

ttpowerd Aug 19, 2002 12:00 PM

oh yeah, it is "renesis" not genesis ;)

I saw the pics at the market last weekend browsing through the magazine, lets just say I hope they call it the RX-9 and not the next generation 7. The look of the car was definitely not to my liking, neither was the artist rendering of the possible new Supra.. ugghh..

This same thread got started in the general automotive section. There are pics in there. And yes, the artist rendition of the 4th-gen RX-7 is phuggly.

Johnsrx7 Aug 19, 2002 01:37 PM

To me those renderings look just like the rx-8 without the back doors. Me thinks, the next RX-7 will look nothing like the picture.

rx7tt95 Aug 19, 2002 02:35 PM

Agreed. Who's to say they don't use the current FD chassis and perhaps widen the track a bit? That would be a big boon to the current FD owners. The R&T depiction is just something their artist came up with, nothing official. Half of that article is complete bunk, just poor journalism used to sell magazines. I posted a supposed spy pic from RX7 Magazine (Japan) a while back and I'd definitely trust that depiction more than an RX8 minus the rear doors.

Where's the spy pic??? :)

KINETIK_FD3S Aug 19, 2002 02:41 PM

lets see some pics.

TpCpLaYa Aug 19, 2002 06:15 PM

the drawings are usually wayyyyyyyyyy different then what the car turns out to be. and i think it shouldnt be the RX-9....too many too soon. 2 years after the RX-8 a RX-9.....i think they should stick it in the RX-7 legacy if anything

mjw Aug 19, 2002 06:28 PM

They should stick with the 7 legacy for sure, but based on that image alone I would hope it would not be made part of the RX-7 lineage. The thread in general automotive covers it pretty well.. there are certain ingredients that make the 7 what it is (rotary engine, 50-50 weight dist., light weight, neutral handler etc.) but aside from the performance it has always been made an extremely attractive car. I don't think I'm alone in describing that image as unappealing.. but you are right, the spy images are always far off from the finished product.

the link from general automotive

Carbomer90 Aug 19, 2002 08:27 PM

The one in R&T looks like a 2D RX-8 but this looks a little more in line with what the next 7 should look like. The other car is the next Supra.......no comment.

Carbomer90 Aug 19, 2002 08:29 PM

Go here to see the full picture with the Supra I had to crop to get this one to fit.

SUPRA!! CAN WE SAY AUTSIN MARTIN (LOOKALIKE)

R Xplicit Aug 19, 2002 08:39 PM

i like the "rumor" rx7 pic. i woul dnot even think of buying the new rx7 if it looked anything like the rx8. i think that it is plain ugly......even in *true* 2-door form....

the supra looks nice too, kind of Aston-Martin-ish.....

whoops......was typing this same thought too.....

GoRacer Aug 19, 2002 10:06 PM

Here's my own rumor

I think Carbomer90's pic is going to be pretty damn close. I also think 2005 Corvette stole the 4th gen's looks and are trying to beat Mazda to production so everyone thinks the opposite (visa versa).

GoneSilent Aug 19, 2002 10:32 PM

mazda hmmm

So if I get this right Mazda is telling me to buy the Rx8 or I wont get a new Rx7? Ummm turbos please? And we can talk. Who do I write to at Mazda to press my demands? Did anyone counter offer yet?

ptrhahn Aug 19, 2002 11:06 PM

Mazdas marketing peope are a bunch of idiots. I've said it before: The RX8 is the answer to the question nobody asked. The FD might not have sold for alot of reasons, but not being a silly-looking half-breed four-door, isn't among them.

Mazda should spend less time thinking of new cute things it can make rotor-shaped, and put three real rotor shapes under the hood of a real sportscar that will run with todays high-horsepower C5s, M-roadsters, etc., . Mazda underpowers everything (yes including the FD) and wonders why they don't sell. Miata w/ 140 hp? RX7/8 w/ 250 hp? FAMILY SEDANS make 250 hp these days. If you're not talking 300+. Don't bother, i'll buy a vette in a year.

actionhank Aug 19, 2002 11:28 PM

is power the only important thing? Lotus makes a car that has 190 hp, but kicks out 4.4 0-60 times. I will agree with you that the car is underpowerd, but weight is also a huge issue in my book.

GoRacer Aug 19, 2002 11:37 PM

They are trying to fill a niche market

The "true" 4-door sports car they have created is different than a sporty sedan by BMW. They are selling the RX-8 to the guys that sold their FD's when they got married with children.

We need the RX-8! People are afraid of different. Try taking your FD down south and see if they don't burn you for being a witch/worlock! "lol"

Kudos to Mazda and long live the Rotary! :bigthumb:
