20 50w

so today i changed my oil back to royal purple 10 30 (before i was running 20 50) and i filled it with 94 from chevron and took her out for a run and went into boost and it felt like it hit a wall and when i came to a stop it stalled. for sure its blown but i was just curious if a switch in oil could really make that much of a difference in a single turbo fd..

Slideways FD 04-30-11 08:46 PM

sounds almost like the map sensor vac line fell off

zxrazorxz 04-30-11 08:58 PM

hm thats very possible.. i will check that. but when i was cranking it over it back fired and sounded like it was sputtering and when it was push started it wouldnt idle higher then about 300 rpm.. even with trying to push the gas it didnt raise the rpm at all.. are those all symptoms of a blown off vac line to the map sensor?

After seeing some of the photo's of your car's engine bay (who set that up with your rad right in front of your intercooler? Other way around!) it wouldnt' surprise me if your hoses are falling off...

Oil has nothing to do with that.

oil has definitely nothing to do with that.

If anything, think about the "94 octane" you put in your car before you went on your spirited drive.

Sometimes if you're not watching, gas attendants can put lower octane in your car by mistake. Sometimes you get the sediments from the older gas in the gas station tanks before they get their gas trucks.

Lots of variables here.

But yes check your map sensor first.

yea i know about the intercooler and rad combo and how the shop fucked that up.. im currently making vmount brackets to switch it to the way i wanted it in the first place (hence the purchase of a koyo rad modified from rx7store) as for the shop.. well lets just say there not around anymore. they went out of business because of shit like this. what else is wrong with my engine bay besides that? those charge pipes are just a mock up.. and i have polished aluminum pipes waiting to go on.
thanks for all of the suggestions im hoping that it is the vac line.

Slevin77 05-01-11 01:39 PM

sounds like a charge pipe popped off.

heh... good try. but im pretty positive that a popped off charge pipe wont cause a no run problem. only things that would do that are fuel compression or spark with the exception of the map sensor issue.

RENESISFD 05-02-11 10:04 AM

^ Due to the FD using a Speed Density system you are correct that a charge pipe falling off will have nothing to do with the car not running at all. It would just not boost.

so.. i did a poor mans compression test today and the front rotor has 3 even psh sounds and the rear has nothing... :S.. time for a rebuild..

Sounds like it could have been a bad tank of gas. Your thread title isn't very accurate.... sorry to hear it, I lost an engine back in 2001 to a shit tank of Exxon 93 octane.

dgeesaman 05-03-11 01:11 AM

Don't know how BC handles this, but in PA you can advise the Weights and Measures department to come check that exact pump.

I wouldn't expect it, but if it can be proven that the fuel was not as advertised you might get your engine paid for.

his only hope is if they haven't filled the their tanks back up with the correct octane, still worth a shot.

This is why I only run Shell 93

Not only that.

Some gas stations have ONE pump nozzle for all their octanes. So you're getting a mixture of octane. Maybe its marginal, maybe its a lot, who knows.

But thats also something needed to be accounted for.

Also like i said before about their delivery trucks. I always ask the attendant when was the last time their truck came.

And lastly, there was an article somewhere about what station had the best filtered gas. Idk if that makes sense but the actual gas being filtered from their tanks, before it hits the nozzle.
