2 stroke oil-SNOWMOBILE/JETSKI
 

I've been reading up on all the old discussions regarding 2 stroke oils. Some say Protek R is good, which in fact is supposed to be just a rebranded jetski oil, and others say any 2 stroke oil will work fine, as long as its an ashless synthetic.

So I'm wondering then, will synthetic 2-stroke oil marketed as snowmobile, or jetski, or outboards work the same as all the other 2 stroke oils, and work fine in a rotary engine? Redline markets it product specifically for use in motorcycles/karts/motors, whereas most of the 2stroke oil I'll see on the shelf of the typical auto parts store, have "watercraft" or "snowmobile" type labels.

I still have the stock OMP working, and am just looking to add 4oz/tank for extra safety and lubrication.

I run a stock OMP and have been putting 4 oz. per tankful in for quite a while. I use MAXXUM, which is marketed mainly for dirtbikes! I think as long as you stay with any name brand synthetic you are fine. It's all mainly a matter of niche marketing. I swear my engine runs smoother since I've been doing this, although it's probably just in my head! I do get a little more (blue) smoke on cold starts, but it disappears quickly.
I only put gas in when I can put in half a tank (2oz.) or a full tank (4oz.)
Read your plugs after a hundred miles for insurance. I like to think the main benefit of doing this ritual is cold start protection, and it's probably overkill, but it is running sweet at 73K miles, and the compression is awesome.
