2 stroke motor oil in gas?

Hey guys.... Just a quick little question/suggestion for all you rx7's out there....

Im sure you guys know about my rx7 blah blah blah... anyways heres the thing... ive been following the words of my mechanic to a tee since getting the car back... and one of the points he has stressed to me is to add a half litre of 2 stroke motor oil in every full tank of gas... yes adding the oil into the gas tank..... i dunno if this is necessarily a "secret" us rx7 guys have been doing for a while.. but i thought i'd pass it on..... i must admit the difference with a full tank of gas vs full tank gas/half litre of 2 stroke is quite noticible... there is definitely a nice improvement with the startups and smoothness of the reving....

are any of you guys currently doing this? i think its a great idea... kinda makes the cost of a fillup a little bit more pricy but in the end its well worth it..... especially for track days

any thoughts... any downside to this? my buddy claims this will make any motor last a long long time.... give it a shot guys, it cant hurt anything... just make sure you dialate it 1/2 litre to 50 litres of gas....

This is what is referred to as 'premixing'.
We do it when the OMP (oil metering pump) has been removed from our cars - such as mine.

Usually the OMP injects some of the motor oil into the engine to lubricate the seals, but when it is removed, we need another way of lubricating them.. hense premix.

An added benefit is that you can then run a synthetic oil without the debate of whether synthetics are good for rotaries or not (engine deposits etc)

I run around a 200:1 mix (50L/250ml), as do most guys I know down here in NZ.

Yeah, in case you didn't know, the OMP injects oil into the combustion chamber to lubricate the apex seals, instead of putting the oil directly into your gas tank. Though alot of us do premix as an extra level of protection even if our OMP's work.

Hmm, .5L of oil per tank sounds like a bit much for a car with a functional OMP though it's about right if you don't have an OMP.

i dont think my omp is working... how can i tell??? my oil level has not gone down since rebuild... is this an indication?

Hmmm, ask your mechanic, lol. I think I lose about a .4 to .9L per 3k miles due to the OMP and my slight oil leak. The dipstick goes from full to about halfway down. Not sure how much that is. If you read the FSM, it'll tell you how to check the OMP.

If your car runs fine and you don't have ALOT of bluish smoke comming from your exhaust, you're probably doing the right thing.

if you're in doubt premix until you verify your oil injectors are putting out the right amount. or if you're lazy like me just premix.
