Interior is mostly gutted (i couldnt get that last wiring harness to seperate from the door and didnt wanna break the clips, so I'll just hang it out of the way when I do the rubberized undercoating in the interior.

I'd say thats an understatement

Im kinda stuck in a weird situation. What should I do about those stickers in the door sill? Do you really need those?

93Efini 01-03-07 10:25 PM

no...but if you want to keep them, just put masking tape over them before you paint

ultmtrx8 01-03-07 10:29 PM

cool

Mr3plus1 01-03-07 10:30 PM

The only reason I ask is they've got some chunks missing out of them (someone must have bumped something into them) and its showing the red paint underneath. Im painting the whole car white. And being the OCD perfectionist I am, that'd bug the shit out of me. Hrm....Maybe I'll just save the tire pressure one so it still looks somewhat official.

KINETIK_FD3S 01-03-07 10:42 PM

why are you sanding it to the bare metal?

GoodfellaFD3S 01-03-07 10:49 PM

Damn, I hope you remember how to put humpty dumpty together again :D

What's under the hood?

weight reduction. Nah. The car has been repainted multiple times and Id rather have a thin coat of paint (thicker coats tend to chip easier).

sand blaster ftw :shooter: wish i had a garage for projects

fsae_alum 01-03-07 11:56 PM

Are you trying to take ALL the paint off? If so, why not just use a chemical stripper?

KINETIK_FD3S 01-04-07 12:32 AM

dont take to long to strip and prime because bare metal will flash rust very quickly.

Arent RX7s aluminum bodied?

KINETIK_FD3S 01-04-07 02:58 AM

no just the hood.

Nice project, a panel popper is your friend. Looks like a flat head screw driver and a fork crossbread. Any autobody store sell them, eastbay.com...

badddrx7 01-04-07 04:43 AM

That's the way to work on them, gut it

EFS.O 01-04-07 05:59 AM

(rubberized undercoating in the interior) ..... can you be more specific?

i believe he's talking about the sound deadening tar...which you can chip off when freezing with dry ice...there's probably 50lbs of that stuff in the car.

damn, it just now hit me how long its going to take to put that interior back together...don't lose any bolts

RE-Amemiya 01-04-07 08:39 AM

Looks like a nice project so far!

wanklin 01-04-07 04:18 PM

looking good. Can't wait to see the finished product!

FDNena 01-04-07 06:56 PM

You can order new stickers if you don't want to tape them up. I ordered a couple when my car went from red to blue.

dblboinger 01-04-07 06:59 PM

I think maybe you can get new stickers from Victoria British, but not sure

double as a rust inhibitor and sound deadener also. As much weight saving as Im doing, I still want to quiet the inside of the car down some. Im waiting on some stuff similiar to the interior tar pieces to wrap the tranny tunnel with also.

Where do you order them from? There's just no way I can keep them. The chunks missing out of them are pretty large and really show the original OEM color underneath. The only reason Id even want to keep them is if I decide to sell the car, which I probably wont. Still, it'd be nice to have them sitting in a drawer somewhere just incase.

I don't know how much heat an LS1 motor radiates but the rotary puts out alot and it gets pretty hot in the interior. Why not go with the heat barrier mat instead of undercoating?
