1st RX7. Very Excited
 

In October I finally got rid of my 1992 Dodge Stealth R/T non turbo converted Twin Turbo with lots of mods. I Got out of the car game for a little while just driving my 2000 Passat Turbo around. But then I saw a deal in the auto-rv.

1995 RX-7 R2 Touring Edition. No Engine or trans $4500obo in Michigan. I quickly jumped on the phone for this one. So next friday (feb 24th) Im driving up from Indianapolis to Kalamazoo Michigan to pick up my new project.
It only needs a few parts that I have already tracked down. Such as front bumper, Windshield, Seats, and door pannels. I havent decided what Im going to do with the car. I know there is a huge debate going on about the origional Rotary or the v8 swap. Im not even about to get involved with that debate. I think they both have their pro's and Con's. Im just posting to get more involved here on the forums. I have been on 3si.org for the past 4 years and have over 1500 posts on there. I plan to learn as much about these cars as I can.

I Would love to hear comments on my purchase and suggestions. Ill post pictures as soon as the car comes home.

For God's sake...don't convert to a V8. Do the right thing man. GL on the project though!!!

So if I understand what you need is:

-engine
-transmission
-driveshaft
-differential
-axels
-wiring harness
-coils
-turbos
-all the surroundings, UIM, LIM, solenoid rack,
-intercooler, intake, oil pan, OMP...
-other stuff I can't even imagine...

Well looking at it from my angle at the end you can have a good running car for around 10k plus the original purchase price if you do everything yourself.

Good tips on this forum are to use the search function. There have been so many threads covering almost all the subjects that you could imagine that I am sure if you look you will be happy at what you find. Alot of searching is filtering through non related posts but in the end you will almost find what you are looking for.

What I like to do alot also is read Steve's old site www.fd3s.net there you will find categorized almost everything you could want from Intercooler Comparo's to Gear Oils.

Personally I would stick with the rotary but to each his own.

is it a Touring or an R2? they are two very different trim levels. Easy way to tell is, if it has a sunroof/moonroof, it's a touring and not an R2. If it has a solid top, it's either an R2 or a base model(which is the same as the R2, except with different seats, softer suspension and no front strut tower bar)

FYI: 95s are VERY rare in America. only 500 were imported from Japan, so I'd suggest keeping it a rotary...

Yep, you could have a Touring, or an R2, but not both.

Well I dont need the drive shaft or rear end. I actually have two rear ends with it. It does need a complete engine and accessorys. Everything thats attached to the engine bay and wiring is all there. I figure I can put 7 or 8 grand into it and have a great car.
I didnt realize it was such a limited vehicle for that year here. I knew it was a low number vehicle but not 500 like 93VRTouring said.

I do know all about the "search" button. Like I said Im no stranger to car forums. 4 years on 3si.. still active on there. I go to their National gathering in michigan every year. I havent decided what engine im going to go with. Im gonna get the exterior/interior done first then decide after i Know more about them.

And quick note for you guys who want to try and steal it out from under me. I have already paid for it so its mine!! If I give up for some ungodly reason and decide to sell it Ill hit you up first.

ANd quick last note.. Im not a Noob to cars. Ive been all over this forum for about a month and all over many other forums. I know turbo systems decently well and Ive put pleanty of wrench hours into other cars So this is gonna be a fun project and i look forward to gettin more involved with the club.

If the VIN does not say JM1FD334..... then the car is not a 95'!!!

To my understanding all the 95's had glass sunroofs....

A 93' Touring with a painted metal sunroof there is a ton of heck I have had two of them. Does it mean it is an inferior car no, but the seller should tell the truth.

Look at the finish of the interior panels. If it is textured than it is a 95 if it is flat and smooth it is a 93.

If you want to do things "right" than it may be more than 7-8k.

Yeah, Well I have a nack for finding parts at good prices. Im not afraid to talk people down in prices and Im good at recouping money on spare parts I have. But The title on the car says 95 So I dont know. I really dont care what year it is as long as its between 93 and 01. Just want an FD dont care what options it has and what not. Im going to spend my time and make it perfect. Here are some pictures of my old stealth so you can see what attenion to detail I take with my cars.

yeah the guy i bought mine off of told me it was a 95 R1, and its a 94 touring ,^btw dradon it could have txtured interior plastic and be a 94




IMHO thouse cars are so cheesy and ugly , its like "i wanna be a 3000gt but i also wanna be a dodge stratus" hahaha , atleast you got a good platform to start with this time, good luck

didnt forget. Car didnt get drivin in inclimate weather so no need for them :)

keep that shit rotary , get ported engine, greddy T78 w intercooler ,fuel mods and you got easy 400hp

Congrats!!! My last "fun" car before the FD was a Mitsu 3000GT VR4 TT AWD. I've had the FD for 9 years now and without a doubt the FD is 1000,000,0000 times more fun as compared to the 3000GT VR4. The FD is a real "driver's car"...the 3000GT is...a...car! Have fun, you have made a wise choice.

I didn't catch it the 1st time, but I just noticed that you had a 2000 Passat-so did I. I actually think the Passat is more fun to drive than the Mitsu 3000GT VR4. So I can say without hesitation that you will have way more fun in the seat of your FD than you ever did in either the stealth or the Passat. Good luck with it...treat her right & she will pay you back many times over.

Good luck with that. Some FD parts are expensive, the rest are downright ridiculous. I hope you don't need to buy any interior parts at all, or if so, buy them in tan. Because the black interior parts might as well be bought from Ferrari, even with the worlds greatest discount.

Dave, still got that drivers door pocket? Was that the 93 or 94-95 style? I can't tell the difference.
