1993 R1 20000 orig. mile For Sale
 

OK, I just bought this car and had it inspected by a mazda dealer before I bought it due to the freaky things I hear that happens to everyones car. The guy I bought it from has 4 of these, and all in excellent condition. I was worried about the lines cracking because of age and the coolant leaking but the mazda dealer says it has been very well maintained. I have had the car a month and put it directly into storage so it hasn't seen the cold MI weather. I have come to decide that I don't want to mod this car due to the fact that it will probably be worth more staying stock. I think that I am going to ask around 19500.00 for it but if " The Pro's" could give me some insight that would be awesome. I just want to say this sight is Awesome and so is everyone on it. I have learned TONS!!!! Oh by the way the car is in great condition, Manual Tranny, everything is stock except the seats. It has one tiny scratch on the drivers side behind the rear tire. I Love this car but I just can't justify modding this low miled motor unless you guys tell me otherwise. Thank you Very much

sounds like you are selling it. if so - 19500 is too high. 15-17 is about right for a car w/ miles like those.

if you are patient, you will get your 19500, but it may take a while.

Well I am thinking of selling it but my real question is should I mod this motor or start with a blown motor and just do a swap for the banzai motor from pettit racing?? I really do not know what direction to go. I have talked with A-Spec Tuning out of Chicago and they were going to do my motor with a GT40 R Garret Single Turbo with a V mount Intercooler, different Radiator, Motec ecu and all the fuel revamping. I am so tore because I don't want to do the wrong thing. Thanks Adam

If in doubt, leave it alone. Modding (unless they are "reliability mods") never does anything for a car's reliability.

i just bought my 93 with 19,000 original miles on it in january and paid $15,700. all service was done including recalls and upgrades, it has all the service records and receipts, clean carfax, one owner, 2 dings, smells brand new still, completely stock except for the reliability upgrades i have performed on it.

ok reliabilty mods are: Y pipe, all hoses & clams new, replace all coolant lines and check for the coolant cap to be the right one. Also I should check all of my vacume lines to make shur those are in good condition. The mazda dealership said it look good but I just don't trudt it till I check.

Where are you getting these values from, Blue Book? Pristine, low mileage FDs almost never sell for book value, at least not here in Cali they do.

As far as reliability mods go, I'd go with a downpipe, boost gauge, and the Miata thermoswitch to turn the cooling fans on at a lower temperature. If your car only has 20K original miles, your hoses, lines, etc. should be just fine.

I am shure that I will find them all in the newbies section. I guess I just thought it would be better to have a built Rx7 than a stock one. Everyone I have talked to says there is so much less stuff to go wrong in a single turbo opposed to the sequential.

Stock, excellent condition, low mileage R1s are getting harder to find. I would suggest keeping it stock, and keeping as many miles off as possible. One day, we'll need these units for reference and originality. With that said, though, I wouldn't look at any car as an investment, though.

Get a "beater" for the performance-oriented good stuff! Then you can have some fun! :-)

Dont take your car to the mazda dealer... you need a rotary specialist. (just advice for the future)

To decide where to go with your car you have to ask yourself: what's my goal with a sports car?

If you're a collector, keep the car, don't drive it much, and ultimately don't enjoy driving it much. Maybe you enjoy looking at it in your garage.:boring:

If you're a driver, you can get plenty of enjoyment driving it bone stock. And save a lot of money I would imagine, as not much can go wrong if you warm up, cool down, and change oil. And not get on it all the time.

If you're a street racer, you want a mod'd to the hilt 7, single turbo, fuel, reliability. You probably want to sell your car and build up a cheaper one, OR buy one already mod'd.

If you're a track racer, probably just take it out on the track bone stock. You'll get the feel for what needs improvement with each successive lap / school. Or maybe you want to race in a stock category.

Short answer: probably keep it stock and enjoy it like that or with reliability mods. If you want fast as hell, probably start with another car unless you're rich.

lol, I like the cheap bastard comment. I got 15 for my first 7. Sold it about a year ago. Had near 100k on the chassis and 20k on the motor. It was in showroom condition but it still took 3 months to sell.

Ok sorry I was out of town since thursday. I appreciate all of the comments. I cannot justify taking 15000. for this car. I have been wanting one of these cars for a while but thought it would be worth it to have such a low mile car to play with. Now I relize that maybe I should take kensan and eggman's advice and keep it stock and buy another one to play with. I have had many cars and everyone I have had has been stock untill I got my hands on it then I made it a crazy show winner. I have much respect for my stock fd but thought it would be worth more than what everyone says on here?? Guess not! I think I will just run it down to a-spec have them check it out and then build another one for the track and show. This car was sooooooooo hard to find but this was before I was on here also. So with that said, you all obviously know WAY more than me!! And I mean this truly.. Were can I find a fd that is either blown up or has tons of mile on it for cheap. Would you suggest e-Bay. I am up for anything...
