15 rwhp grounding kit?!?!?!?!
 

Alright, called up XS engineering today to talk about my FD. They told me they have a grounding kit for the FD that added 15 rwhp on their dyno. They say the grounding system in the stock rx-7 is horrible. So, I went to eBay and just bought a $25 grounding system. Will update you if I feel difference in power. Just throwing this out to see if any of you all have upgraded the groundign system in your FD and have seen or felt any power differences. Also, if this is true $25 and an hours labor for 15 rwhp. Seems like a no-brainer

you don't actually gain 15 rwhp, I think it's more like you just re-gain the hp that you lost due to the lack of grounds in the FD

any gain for 25 buck is worth it in my opinion

Is there a certain brand of a kit they're selling? I'm wondering if it's just cheaper to make up a kit from scratch...

Anyhow, in the other thread, the best advice is to clean the stock grounds. They worked fine when these cars were new. But don't use Vaseline, it's about as conductive as wood, so you're relying only on metal-metal contact, though it does help protect against corrosion. Use a conductive grease (often called "switch lube"), if you're going through the trouble to recondition everything... hell, use it if you're installing a grounding kit too.

i think it would make somewhat of a diffrence on fd's after 9+ years of wear. probablly not a noticable diffrence. it would be 1 of the last things i would do to squeeze out a little more hp.

both FC and FD are awful at grounding

on my FC once i regrounded my car with 4 guage i could hear my injectors clicking (brand new) where as before i couldn't hear them at idle.

that's not even mentioning spark.

It helps everything related to the electrical system if your grounds are in not-so-new shape. It fixed a serious light throttle hesitation as well as making my lights brighter and stereo louder. Just go to your local wirehead shop and pick up some 8 gauge wire (for misc UIM/block grounds) and a length of 4 gauge wire (for the negative battery terminal) with terminals and dialectric (sp?) grease for each, and enjoy.

that sounds like symptoms im gettin now. light throttle hesitation. i just did a simplification and i think that might b part of my problem.

If you're having problems at cruising throttle, especially in lower gears, this mod should do wonders for you.

FYI, Dielectric grease is NOT conductive. It's used in multi-pin connectors and switches where you don't want current to jump pins. I made a mistake earlier: switch lube IS dielectric grease.

On a ground, you'll want CONDUCTIVE grease.

I put this stuff on the block-grounds on my old beater bimmer and it stayed fresh for 5 years. It's great for spade connectors as well. But, keep it out of multi-pin harness connectors.

My mistake, I read what you had wrote about switch grease and was posting too late :)
