13B-MSP conversion?

anyone tried putting a Renesis into their 7?

I've seen 2 or 3 RX-8s with REWs in them, so I was wondering if it can be done inversely

since I have coolant explosion again, was looking for something a bit more reliable (with rx7 styling and all)

I know, why would I want to put a less powerful engine in? well, .............crap.......it was just a thought, anyone tried this?

I dont think it would be a problem to put it in the problem would come from trying to incorperate all the electronics and the wiring harness..

It's been done in japan at least 2-3 times. I know Mr.Koseki at Scoot did one such a conversion for a customer.

the problem im forseeing is the electronic throttle body

A well maintained REW will be as reliable as an MSP. You just have to do it right. Plus you have way more power with the FD engine...

believe me a conversion like that is not worth it.

problem is solved 1 of three ways.

1. put a throttle cable on it; requires a little custom fab, but its been done

2. use an ecu that controls the electronic throttle. MoTeC has been able to do it for years. stock rx8 pcm can too, and its becoming programable.

3. it may be possible to adapt a different throttle body onto the manifold.

damn rotaries

ok, I'm sorry to waste your times, I am now fully sober and have found this to be a pretty idiotic and expensive idea

Supernaut Sep 17, 2008 04:26 PM

I dont think its a dumb idea. Whats wrong with trying to make the 7 a bit easier on maintanance?

If you can deal with the decrease in power, you will have yourself one reliable rotary.

tajabaho1 Sep 17, 2008 04:35 PM

I have owned an rx8 before

I think the only reason it is more reliable is because it didn't have a turbo charger (a TT SQ for that matter)

I'll just suck it up and go rebuild my motor now :(

Hitokiri_Gensai Sep 17, 2008 05:39 PM

its not idiotic, its just not cost effective. Everyone wants a reliable engine, its just something that would be nice considering our cars, but so long as you properly maintain your 13B-REW it will be reliable, aka, oil changes, coolant flushes and all that, and everything will be fine.

If you ask me, putting a Renesis in is just too big of a step back, its lack of torque will really change the way the car handles and feels.

id just maintain your 13B-REW and see how it goes.

thanks man

I'm by no means an insane driver (not anymore) and I baby all my cars, so hopefully she will last long after this rebuild.

Monkman33 Sep 18, 2008 04:30 PM

there's your problem. If you baby a rotary too much, you will get carbon build-up.

A renensis increases this problem with side port exhaust. if you don't open her to clean her out, she'll get dirty.

Kind of the reverse of a girlfriend.

Supernaut Sep 18, 2008 05:42 PM

o LORD monkey. You dont have to open her up every time you drive though. I was told redlining once a month would be sufficient.

Falken Sep 18, 2008 06:22 PM

I was always told once a day for my renny. "A redline a day keeps the carbon away"

wangster11235 Sep 18, 2008 07:08 PM

it may be a step back for the 13bmsp but i think it would be a step forward when the 16x comes out, but who knows what your gona have to do to fit in the 16x when it does come out.

tajabaho1 Sep 18, 2008 08:57 PM

if it does fit, that would be wtf ownage
