11's on twins?
After many hundreds of hours and dollars
working with the stock twin-turbos, I can tell you that if you want to run in the 11 sec. range you will need a single turbo! The stock turbos fall off boost beyond 5000rpm. Sure you can hit 16-17 pounds of boost, then they simply can not supply enough air to hold these boost levels as the RPMS climb and the motor needs more air to keep the boost level as they were in lower levels.I have seen the facts in front of me, and you can waste your time, and money, and learn as I have. Don't believe everything you read on this forum, contact the few tuners who make a living building these wonderful power plants.Good hunting. Philip 93R1 340rwhp 315fpt |
Reliably and consistent..yeah, go for the single turbo. There's plenty of cases where stock turbos (usually running parallel) hit mid-migh 11s with a streetport, all the bolt-ons, and 15 psi which is good for around 360-380 rwhp. The BNR twins are really a revolution for the 3rd gen community since they've pulled over 400 rwhp and 125 mph traps at only 17 psi.
You are right though, the regular common FD owning Joe will not pull 11s on stock turbos. They atleast need a more efficient compressor wheel and proper balancing of internals to push more cfm |
You guys wanna take some guess's what i'll run after the new injectors and intercooler? Just curious, track wont be open for a long time. Mods are in the sig.

11's arent easy but it's alot easier to hit on a single turbo.
With 340rwhp you should be able to hit an 11. |
Stock motor and sequential twins can easily hit mid to high 11's. My stock motor and turbos with a Pettit ECU ran a 12 flat quarter at 117+mph on street tires at 14 psi boost and pump gas.
Slicks are worth 0.4 to 0.5 sec as I have know of many Rx7s in the 11's with all the bolt-ons on stock motor/turbos plus slicks. Street tires and all the bolt-ons are usually good for the low12 to low13 depending on driver skill. With no regard for launch abuse I'm sure a high 11 is doable on streets. |

Philip 93R1 340rwhp 315fpt This post sounds like you are a little upset..Stock turbos will not fall off boost after 5000rpms. Waste time and money? Any FD with a free flow exhaust ($500bucks) and upgrade ecu ($600) and an intake and intercooler ($900-$1500) will run 11s with a good driver. A key factor is a good 60ft. If you are running street tires it will be harder. I guess in the tri-state are stock turbo/stock motor rx7s running 11s is very common. BTW, 15psi is all it takes to run 11s. Don't discourage the rest of the guys since it didnt happen for you... No offense.... Anthony |

If you are cutting a 2.0-2.5 60ft time then of course it will be much harder and maybe impossible with 340HP. I've seen drag radials cut 1.8-1.9 60ft times and street slicks cut 1.5-1.6 60ft times. These are average times... Anthony |

Hmm - Don't tell Boostn7 that... He's deep in the 11's with stock tbo's & engine....
Boostn7 - where are't thou.. |
11's on stock turbos is soooooo doable, what are you kidding me? It's been done time and time over again.

Sorry about my post earlier, I just re-read it and it sounded kinda mean, I didnt mean it like that. As for Rx94, he was on of the first FD's I saw running 12.0 all day long...He had all stock stuff too! Anthony |

11s on stock twin is possible. Hopefully I'll be the next into the 11s this spring with my stockers with over 100k miles on them.
|
I bet if you stripped your interior, and put on some slicks, with skinnies up front you could get into very high elevens on stock twins.
but yeah your probly right, stock on stock, is a 12sec car but its EZ get break into those 12 seconds!! :) :) :) |
11's is not easy to do but it can be done on stock twins but they are WAY out of the effiency range IMO. They are not going to last a very long time running high boost all the time.
-Rikki ps I did 11.7 @11-12psi if you did not know:; |
Yes, I should have worded it differently, and I'm not about to say that it is impossible to run 11's with the twins.
The question is why not just go ahead and put all that time and money into something that has more potential? On August 5 2001 at Rockingham Dragway, the first time I have been to a dragstrip, on my first run I went 12.6 at 113mph 2.0 at the 60ft mark.My car is faster now than it was back in 2001.This run was flawless except for the R/T of .996. This time seems to be the norm for a well built street car with good driver. I know that this time is what guys like Brad Barber were turning in there cars too. I saw in a magazine that XS Engineering with slicks, were turning low twelves on the stock turbos. I love my car as much if not more so than you guys.I love racing, but don't get all worked up over the quarter-mile stuff. Road- racing baby, see ya in the twisty stuff. Each to there own, I'm glad to see that I managed to get your attention. Later |
Its going to be hard with a 2.0 60 foot. With intake, full exhaust, untuned base map PFC and EVERYTHING else stock I ran 12.3 @ 113 with a 1.8x 60 foot. Every .1 you trim off your 60 foot is good for close to .2 at the end of the 1/4.
With 340 and a good launch you should be closer to low low 12's. If you turn the boost up to about 15 with ALL the bolt ons and supporting fuel you shouldnt have any probs getting into the 11's. You just need to run drag radials or slicks, do a long burn out, and cut some 1.8x 60's STEPHEN |
i think with a good launch and 340 rwhp you could pull high to mid 11's . i ran 12.3 at 115 with a 1.822 60 ft. and i only have 314 rwhp

it's grrrrreaaat to hear al this good stuff about songle turbo ;) that's because i'm going single soon :)
|
....and Nitto NT-555 drags
belive or not I'm aiming for 10.99999999 on ET streets and higher boost......so we'll see:D 340rwh should be good for high 11's w/ good run. |
i have faith in you. :)
btw... i did get your PM of parts list FS... just have not had a chance to get back to you. ill ask tomorrow. |
