100K miles, to sell or not to sell
I have a 93 touring, i have invested around 5k into the car on recent mods, and have been the proud owner for five years. The amount spent on repairs makes me go into convulsions. i am concerned that the integrity of the car won't hold up much longer, considering that it has so many f#$%$n miles. i am debating on either selling it or doing a single turbo swap. What is your opinion, to sell and buy another, or keep it and press on!!!!

If it ain't broke, drive it! ;)
|
Nobody knows your car better than you. If you sell it and buy another who knows what you would be getting... Or maybe your car really sucks so any other would be a step up ;)
|
I think I'd keep it too. You know the condition of that car better than anybody. You might sell it and get another one only to find out it has more problems than the one you sold! These cars are 10 years old, there is no telling what has been done to them - with yours at least you know... my $0.02.
*edit* Montego - you beat me to it... |
I plan on keeping it for "LIFE" hopefully, but with 100K i doubt that is feasible. i want to buy one with 30k and store it. The car is in good mechanical condition, the miles jus tworry me.
|
30K or 100K the car is still 11 years old.. :)
|
i pay around 600$ a mo. on mine... i have no money to do stupid things, just the basic stuff i need and of course my modding money, it has 77k on it... the guy that sold it to me couldn get it to start since the new rebuilt... it took me 2 days to get it running and about another 1000 bucks on modds... i really dont know the car but i know it better than the previous owner... i wouldnt sell her for nothing, not after all the reserch i did to figure her out (imagine if i would had had her for 5 yrs, id know her like the back of my hand)... shes my baby. go single! ill see u there in a couple of months. :D

Keep it!!

ive got over 183k on my car(with a new engine at 173k). The car is in excellent condition. I would trust the car to go on any long trip. I really dont think that 100k is a lot of miles! Keep it, and drive it til it blows up, put another motor in it, and drive it another 100k
|
put a LS1 and call it a day, runs 12.3's and will run 200k without any problems just reg oil changes. or you can put another rotary in there and rebuild it in 30-50k.

If your asking the question then maybe you ought to sell the car. I have 143,000 miles on my present car and feel very comfortable with where the chassis and suspension are at. You can't make the decision based on the motor and the transmission because, after all, you are dealing with a sports car. Any sports car you look at is going to need a motor or a tranny or some major expense after the century mark (porsche, corvette, ferrari, etc). The only difference is the price. No performance engine I know of comes at the price of a rotary.

most owners after owning an rx7 know that mileage really doesnt matter. The only thing that really goes with age would be suspensiong, but that is easy to fix and will last another 11 years of driving. With rxd gens the engines have usually already been replace so what difference does it make. I am gonna keep my car for a very long time. I have a t78 on mine and enjoy 10x more then with the stock turbos. Its a lot more predictible when you dont have that transition period. Keep it put a lil more money into it and enjoy it.

you are going to be dropping a TON of money into the car very soon. Getting a smooth and safe running setup is very expensive. Appreciate how it is running now because once you mod it, it may never run well again/have problems if the right person doesnt do it.
I would say sell the car, but you wont get much for it. If you really like rx7s get a 94 with low miles from a good owner and treat it right and start modding that one slowly and do the reliabilty mods you will be in love and not have to be repairing things, but instead upgrading whatever you want at your discresion. |
