1000cc primaries with KG rails?

How many people are running this setup? I just installed mine during my single turbo conversion, and I just primed the fuel and found them leaking from the o-rings where it seats in the rail. The o-rings I got from Keith were too big to fit in there so I got some smaller diameter but still kinda fat, and they were still too big but not as bad as the ones from Keith. I also had to modify the bracket to bolt the rail to the engine because the bolt holes didn't line up while the injectors did and visa versa. So I had to bend the bracket and it ended up cracking on one side of the screw. Although it still held the injectors down well so I left it. Now I'm going to get a new bracket and try to find some better o-rings. I also noticed that the injectors wouldn't seat too far in the rail anyway because it looks like the larger part at the top would bottom out on the rail. The hole in the rail isn't big enough to accommodate the injector seating fully.

Has anyone else had these problems? The o-rings being too big and the bracket not lining up?

Here are the injectors I'm using, the fatter ones are the 1000cc if you don't know...

Did you try calling Keith? His customer service is pretty good in my experience.

speedjunkie 08-30-08 12:18 AM

When I originally told him about the bracket he said no one had ever informed him of a fitment problem. He did tell me it might be hard to fit the injectors next to each other since they're so fat, but I didn't have that problem. I haven't talked to him about the o-rings, I just went and got some that I thought would work, obviously they didn't haha. I agree though, his customer service is excellent. I didn't call him this afternoon cause it was after closing time when I discovered the problem. I'll try to call him tomorrow to order another bracket or see what's up with that. I'll bring up the o-ring situation with him too. Thanks Ihor.

Tell Rich I said hi, he probably won't be surprised that I'm having yet another problem hahaha.

intresting, i should be getting my high idep 1kcc injecotor and KG rail next week. so we will see.

fendamonky 08-30-08 08:52 AM

Why not just keep with the tried and true 850 primaries. From there just add a FPR and turn the fuel pressure up to 50psi. That will make your 850's flow at a rate equiv to 1000cc, and I believe the 850's hold their spray pattern VERY well at higher pressure..

speedjunkie 08-30-08 09:25 AM

Actually the only reason I went with 1000cc is because that's what the guy had. I didn't get the kit from Keith, I got it from someone else, and I've had nothing but problems with this kit. First he took a while to ship it, then it was incomplete (which he blamed on USPS), now this. I would have no problem with running 850s. In fact, I was going to ask about that when I originally posted this thread but I forgot haha. I was wondering if the 850s had these same issues. I could care less about 1000cc, I don't think I really need that much fuel anyway.

oo7arkman 08-30-08 09:49 AM

It sounds like possibly the inner diameter of the o-rings you have are a bit too big. I had a similar problem with my primaries (though they are 850's). Give Keith a call, he is great with customers and I have never spoken to someone with more fuel system related knowledge than he has. He is great. He trouble-shot my primary injector problem and even sent me a video of the flow test.. Nothing but great things to say about him...

speedjunkie 08-30-08 09:55 AM

Well the o-rings he sent me to use for the primary injectors were a little too big for inner diameter AND just the thickness of the ring itself. So I used one with a much smaller inner diameter and about the same thickness and it still didn't fit in there.

I just called and they're not there. I've only talked to him once but he seemed like a good guy. I'm not bashing him at all, I just want to get this fixed. I'm thinking maybe we had a miscommunication on which injectors I had or maybe this specific rail isn't milled for that size or something, I have no idea.

oo7arkman 08-30-08 10:04 AM

Don't get me wrong, I didn't think you were basing Keith or his company. I was just simply making a statement of his knowledge and reliability. It is a holiday weekend... Hopefully he will get back to you soon.

You may just sell those injectors and go with 850 primaries.. Those 1000's are going to be a pain to tune out the idle anyways....

rxrotary2_7 08-31-08 05:53 AM

Believe me, I will take care of it. I am out of the country until Thursday. If possible, send me the name of who (real name, not forum) sold you the rail. From what has happened so far in the o-rings not fitting to you saying the bracket is off, it sounds to me as if you got one of our RX8 Primary rails. They look very similar, but are off in the areas you described.
Letting me know the injector part number, or if the person selling them scored them off the side to "hide" what injectors they are, a picture is all I would need.

I will help you get it right, don't worry.
The only rail that I know has an issue is our new rail for the GZ manifold. The secondary rail fits just fine, it is the use of certain injectors in the middle two location that is rubbing on the primary. Unfortunately we do not have one of these new GZ manifolds to work with as a customer let us borrow one for fitment. From what we could tell, they changes the design/pattern of the new batch. I have been working with this customer to resolve the issue and it has been killing me to not be able to get him squared away. That is the only rail that should have an issue at this time. Like I said, I will help you figure it out. Just keep emailing me. ;)

speedjunkie 08-31-08 12:24 PM

Haha, Ok cool. I didn't really think it was that big of a deal. I mean, it's been a hassle but since I got it from someone else instead of you, I didn't really consider it your problem. But I do understand why you're not happy about this. I had no intention of putting your name in the dirt, but it looks like I did. Sorry about that.

I have to modify shit all the time so I was just doing my thing haha. I didn't even think that it could possibly be an RX-8 rail. I'll PM you the guy's name. The injector part number is still there, I just gotta run out to the garage to get it. There is a pic of the injectors in the link in my first post of this thread, but I'll get you the exact part number.

Are the injector holes on both rails different sizes? That's what it looks like to me. The holes on the secondary rail are larger than the primary rail, and although I haven't had any fuel through the secondary rail yet, they seat just fine so I don't think I'll have a problem with them. I'll post a pic of that too.

That's alot Keith, I truly appreciate it.

speedjunkie 08-31-08 01:19 PM

Keith, here are some pics. I have the rails next to each other so you can tell the differences, what we had to do to the bracket to make it work, and some pics of the injector. The part number for the injector is 1317 17113744. And I'll PM you the guys name. Thanks Keith!

Tried to PM you Keith but your inbox is full, so I emailed you the info at work.

Eric,

I guess you already bought them, but 1000cc primary's are just going to make driveability tuning harder, with likely a rich idle. Do you even need bigger primary's for your power goals? You can do 400whp with 550/1680 .

sk8world 09-01-08 01:55 AM

I ran this set up on my last motor (KG rail and 1000cc bosch inj in primary). Idle was a tad rich but everything else was perfect. Now when I first did the install I had the same fuel leakage. I ended up using some rigged up orings and rubber washers to get the leak fixed however I could smell fuel from time to time.. Now I just bought a set of 1680's from Keith and having the same issue again. In fact I just spent the last 2 hours trying to get the primary's not to leak......No luck... It seems like the rail does not line up correct and makes the inj. sit at an angle not sealing in the rail no center plate.

Keith, I was going to phone you Tuesday about this to see what you suggest???

So far I have the diffusers in, the aluminum sleeves with the factory ruber ring that sits on the top (around) the primary holes. I tried to put a small oring on the yellow tip of the bottom of inj. to help seat. ??

rxrotary2_7 09-01-08 02:55 AM

Thanks for the picture. That solved it. yep... you have been trying to fit a rail designed for the RX8 renesis. Completely different rail, using a different style injector.

As I mentioned, I will be out of the country returning Thursday. Shop will be open Tuesday if you want to call and get someone to get you the following as an alternative solution. (BTW, you should have removed the diffusers, be only using the aluminum spacers and the lower o-ring that came on the injector)

you will need 2 of each of the following from our injector site:
http://injector-rehab.com/outpatient/injectorparts.htm

3-103 (New pintle caps to replace the bosch pintle cap/o-ring/spacer)
4-140

Lower portion of the injector should look like this:
http://injector-rehab.com/images/inj...95500-1350.jpg
where as before it had the nylon spacer,o-ring, and pintle cap that looked like this:
http://injector-rehab.com/images/inj.../280150842.jpg

you will need to open the hole in the bottom of the new pintle cap as the pintle itself is larger than injectors designed to use this cap. If you can wait until Thursday it can be done for you. Everyone that will be in early in the week are all newer employees that wont be able to use any machines.

Haha, like I told the other guy, the only reason I got 1000cc primaries was because that's what he was selling. Had I known that...

1. the kit was incomplete
2. some parts were broken
3. I wasn't even getting the correct damn fuel rail

I would have never gotten this kit and gone with the one from RX7store. I could care less about the 1000cc, it's just what was being sold and I thought I was getting a good deal. Lesson learned.

So can I call and order the primary rail on Tuesday and get it rushed to me? I'm already a few days behind schedule of when I REALLY wanted it done. And do I need a different set of injectors now too?? Damn! Did you sell him the kit originally or are you just going off of the pics and can tell it's an RX-8 rail? Do I have the correct secondary rail?

Jason 09-01-08 08:54 AM

The trick to getting the 1000cc to seal is using the 2nd gen rubber grommet on the front of the injector. Issue is that after a while that will crack and create a vacuum leak. That is one of the reasons I stopped selling them in our kit.

didnt recognize the name, but again, I am nowhere near my database to check.
No, you can use the 1000cc you have.
Yes you can call and order Tuesday. Ask for Gary or Sal, one of them can help you.

Yep, Part number 4-140 can replace the lower o-ring on the rochester 1000cc injectors. http://injector-rehab.com/outpatient/injectorparts.htm The heat down there will cause them to get brittle over time, even on the oem fc injectors. :(

sk8world 09-01-08 10:44 PM

ok, so I need to pull the diffusers back out and get the new cap and oring. But what about the lining up issue? Is that normal for them to sit at a slight angle from rail to inj. hole? I thought this was why they leaked... Also can I put on the new caps?

OK cool thanks. I'm going to call tomorrow morning. Do you think they can put a rush on it? I'm waiting for a belt and coupler too, but I should have those by Wed or Thurs and I'd like to get the car running ASAP. Thanks Keith!

Those guys dont get in until about noon EST. Overnight shipping is going to be about $28 extra, 2nd day about $20 and ground shipping would be free but take 3-4 days

speedjunkie 09-02-08 09:51 PM

Ordered my rail this morning. Shipping overnight came out to $42 though. Thanks Keith!
