$700 bucks for a car jack for my FD...give me a break!

Couldn't find another place for this post and it does concern working on my 3rd genFD I thought I would post it here where I live now!:D

Okay, so I want to work under my FD and remove wheels and stuff. I want a quality car jack at a reasonable price. I went searching on the web only to find 700-1000 dollar jacks!!!!

"Whoolllly cow bat man, forget the coil over conversion...lets get a jack"..."don't make me bit*h slap you robin!"

Anyone have any advice!!

just go to the local car parts store and they sell jacks that are cheap and work fine. the ones you are looking at for massive $$$ are all CNC machined etc. a set of jack stands and a jack shouldn't cost more than $30 or $40. make sure to get smaller 2 2 ton jacks to make the job of getting them under the car easier.

yeah.... pep boys, auto zone, napa, etc.... they all carry high quality, inexpensive hydralic floor jacks.

do yourself a favor and get a good 3 ton floor-jack, that way you can jack up the whole front or rear end of the car, throw jack stands under it and be done - no need to go from one side to the other. You'll probably have to pull the front tires up on 2x4's to get the jack far enough under, but it's well worth it.

A three ton floor jack at Sears is 100. If you go to spend a $1000 you can find a car lift for the garage.

Go to a junkyard. There are plenty of wrecked 2nd Gens. The 2nd and 3rd Gen jacks are virtually the same. Paid $25 to get another jack.

I also bought Larin scissors jacks at one of the auto parts stores.
They fit under the FD very nicely, and were cheap too. They won't stow in the rear jack compartment though.

I don't know if there are any Costco's near you (formerly the Price Club), but I bought a 3 ton floor jack there for $89. As far as a replacement stock jack, hit up a junk yard. There's a ton of cars' jacks that would work.

I have bought some jacks from both costco and sears. The ones I purchased from costco were orange...and man they sucked. I mean they were strong and stuff, but they didnt let the car down easy at all. The 3-ton Sears jack (it's black) was on sale this weekend for like $80 around SoCal, and I've got 2 of those, and they are pretty cool, lets the car down very smoothly.

wow

Well, I got tons of advice even though I was a bone head not to say up front that the jack was for home use and track...not a replacement for the stock...

I think Sears may have what I want from all the posts I have read...

thanks:D

Pretty cheap shipping, too.

hmm

Where is the safest (i.e. for me and my baby) place to jack up the FD and get the entire front or rear lifted??

I am assuming the rear diff but what about the front?

Smarta** remarks not need to apply
:D

Rear: below the diff
front: the center of the cross member
