$20 paint job

Has anyone done the $20 paint job you know where all you have is non reflective primer so your paint dosn't reflect light and does anyone have pics of what it looks like on a rx7?

ejmack1 07-09-04 03:58 AM

what? links to this process?

akiratdk 07-09-04 04:54 AM

Austin!!!!~~~ Do what I say!!~~~

Save your money and get a real paint job!!!!!

You will cry when you see your FD with just primer

all over the poor thing....

DS2000 07-09-04 05:28 AM

^ I agree, you can't skimp on paint, it'd just be wrong :)

pugg57 07-09-04 06:01 AM

i kinda think the matte finish looks pretty good... but i'm gonna have to qualify that a little further... i think it looks good on muscle cars not sexy curvy sports cars... i've heard of people doin this Austin, but i'm useless to ya, not seen it or done it myself.

XSTransAm 07-09-04 08:37 AM

primer cars? lmao, i didnt know people actually did this until i saw a brigade of mexican trucks primer grey...

If you primer your fd as your paint job i will drive to your house and smack you in the face.

wiblergt 07-09-04 08:42 AM

SOLID!!!

XSTransAm said it perfectly!!

primer looks horrible... because... IT IS PRIMER!

Not on an RX-7 that's worth more than $200.00

Jesuscookies 07-09-04 11:01 AM

There is a saying in cycling that goes a little something like this. "If you got a $5 head, get a $5 dollar helmet."

I.E. If you got a $20 dollar FD, get a $20 dollar paint job.

GoodfellaFD3S 07-09-04 11:09 AM

Wow.......wow.

Meiogirl 07-09-04 11:30 AM

i didnt know $20 worth of primer would cover an entire car. dont go buy the stuff and do it yourself unless you find someone who knows what they are doing. you can still get paint lines from pirmer.

it looks good.... on 70s sedans in a madmax kinda way.

respecttheseven 07-09-04 01:19 PM

yesss mad max and the thunderdome! primer style!

austinsFD 07-09-04 02:13 PM

well the thing is im goin to get a new paint job soon so why not just see how it looks

austinsFD 07-09-04 02:15 PM

XSTransAm 07-09-04 05:35 PM

it looks bad...

besides it would raise the cost of doing a proper paint job since they would have to take off more now that you added a new layer.

Because you'll fuck up the car that way. You'll be to lazy and cheap to buy tape and mask off the crap you should mask off. You'll get overspray and paint on the lights, trim, etc and the bodyshop that ends up trying to paint it the right way will just spend more time and $$ fixing what you did in the first place.

End of story.......

Its not a 7, but it is a flat black primered Prelude I did for about $40 in sandpaper and spray paint. What do you all think?

turbojeff 07-10-04 12:52 AM

PIECE OF SHIT.

questions?

Here is a shot of one FD from a while back. Kinda OK if you drop the F&F stickers:)

D"oh! Hold on.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...at+black+paint

The group of pics about 8 posts down

However, if you do this you better use some quality materials and fill the body "imperfections" very good or you will see all of them. Not to mention if you use $20 paint in a can I will come smack you too!!

Spend the money and make the cars paint last! Whatever color you go with.;)

RX7SpiritR 07-10-04 03:15 AM

Austin dude, skip all that bullshit since its a waste of time and pointless. There's nothing for you to see how it looks with primer.....it looks like any other car with primer, LIKE SHIT! There's no point for you to try this, it will just cause more problems. Just get the real paint job....A GOOD ONE TOO!

san diego fd3s 07-10-04 03:21 AM

damn..you can't get anymore fucken ghetto then this....i thought only the honda boys primered their pieces of shit...if you do that you'll make us all look bad.

clayne 07-10-04 07:50 AM

An entirely primered car is not the same as a matte finish.

Herblenny 07-10-04 08:37 AM

If you want a matte finish, go get a 400 grid paper and take off the clear or keep sanding it until you hit primer.. That way you also have to get a new paint job! And i think it will be cheaper.. Unless you are thinking aboug sanding it to primer..

Good luck..

This is why 16 year olds should not own FDs.
