Throttle fd build

This is one of the best YouTube rx7 build, there is a lot of detail on the car. The engine, the v mount, and the titanium intake pipes are awesome.
checked it out...

AE_Racer 01-03-19 04:36 PM

Do you have a link or channel name? Throttle brings up too many things.

Red94fd 01-03-19 05:27 PM

There are a series of videos, I skept the body and paint part..

H_M 01-03-19 05:56 PM

Same guys as TJ Hunt. Nothing but clickbait trash for 12 year olds. If you eant a real build series check out Speed Academy on Youtube and look up Ken's Rx-7.

Red94fd 01-03-19 05:59 PM

I have, and it's different. This guy didn't build the engine himself, but it showed what he did and was there. No tj hunt.

cr-rex 01-03-19 06:31 PM

If you actually pay attention to the videos, micky doesn't really know what he's doing and he does very little of the work himself. Read between the lines on this one.....

Red94fd 01-03-19 06:41 PM

I know that lol, but he doesn't seams to care and is learning along the whole thing. Lol its easy to tell actually..

Red94fd 01-03-19 06:53 PM

I just like what he put together without having the knowledge of how it worked. I have to see the dyno sheet on this one , cause he mention 490rwhp and 400+ tq..at 12psi i heard correctly.

cr-rex 01-03-19 08:49 PM

Well the issue is that he claims to have all sorts of knowledge and experience because he "worked with mad mike" and has built all these other cars. Meanwhile on his very own car you see how he handles it. Regardless of the chassis, mechanical knowledge and ability is universal....... which he seems to lack. He also uses the term "something I've learned....." a lot. Then that something ends up being common knowledge. Then he's real proud of himself for sharing the information #mickyspec.

[facepalm]

Red94fd 01-03-19 09:01 PM

You got me there.. I was so into the car that I didn't or haven't seen his other cars build..

scotty305 01-09-19 02:34 AM

I'm not a fan of the bodywork or wheels, but still much better than the 'b is for build' clown whose youtube videos were linked on these forums a few months ago. I don't think there's any shame in relying on knowledgeable people, especially if you're located Southern California where there are probably a few different shops and tuners within 100 miles that could do a good job. The various different channels featuring the Monsterbox 4-rotor are still my favorite things on youtube, then maybe Defined Autoworks and some of the crazy machining and building Chips Motorsports is doing. I really enjoyed the RX7 videos on Jack Cecil 's channel too (BoostCrzy on these forums).

Jeez lol everyone busting mickeys balls. Gotta learn at some point, can’t just be born with the knowledge. I personally enjoyed it. Not really a “learning” for the viewer kind of build series but still enjoyable

Red94fd 01-09-19 09:22 AM

Yea, monster box is on another level.. that’s my number 1. If you can do all that work yourself, good for you. Everyone at some point messes up on something, nothing is perfect. I don’t like the new hood idea, wheels and need to do ducting and boost controller etc..There are a lot of other engine build videos that are more technical. To me it’s cool to watch.

no one is faulting him for learning. There's nothing wrong with that. It's just him boasting and bragging all this time about having all this experience and knowledge and then when it comes to his own car all that experience and knowledge is no where to be found or demonstrated. It's a complete change of tone. During the whole build it was "learning" this and "let's figure it out" that. I think dude is a phony. Like I said before, outside of the engine stuff, everything else is just nuts and bolts and general maintenance. For someone that made all the claims he has, the assembly of his car shouldn't have of any difficulty whatsoever.

that's my beef with it. Had he not of bragged so much before his build, then I wouldn't care and would be all for his adventure into the world of car modding.

fair enough, I can see where you’re coming from, this is the first “build” I’ve watched from their channel, prior to his and TJ’s. Rx7 I’ve never heard of them so I wasn’t familiar with any of their actual backgrounds

Gilgamesh 01-15-19 09:38 AM

I liked Mickey's build. The guy is mechanically inclined, but not well versed in the rotary. Basically he did a lot of the little things that really makes a quality car while leaving the big important jobs up to the experts, and there is nothing wrong with that. To me, knowing when to outsource something has the same weight of trying and failing. Rob Dahm does the same thing to an extent. When you live in the rotary mecca, it makes sense to utilize the knowledge of some true rotor heads instead of taking the learning curve on your own.

Engine build - DNA garage
Tuning - Abel
Fab - some other guy
Wiring - Rywire i think

Red94fd 01-15-19 08:36 PM

The Damn thing blew up.. I cant wait to see the experts to diagnose what happened. Destination? It's funny some how... reminds me of my car.. lol

ecurbd02 01-18-19 12:03 PM

Heard they think It’s an apex seal, which is surprising when its only under 17lbs it boost and running with new seals. Forget what he said they were made of

H_M 01-19-19 05:27 AM

I've got a friend whose FD blew up on the dyno. Was at ~17psi, tons of fuel, and lots of timing. The tuner was very experienced too and had tuned hundreds of rotaries.

I saw the dyno video where the engine blew. I don't like his content but I genuinely felt bad for him.

17psi on pump can be considered pushing it a bit. Most with water or meth injection have it turn on well under that level to reduce the risk.

Red94fd 01-19-19 02:12 PM

TwinCharged Rx7 wise words.

estevan62274 01-19-19 02:22 PM

Gotta love HypeTube..... lol

BoostCrzy 01-20-19 12:42 AM

91 octane and turbocharged rotaries don’t mix well. I hung out with TJ while he was here in FL and his car is VERY conservatively tuned for the Cali piss gas. I am not surprised that mickeys motor popped. Hopefully they keep it mild with the new build.

Ricebox 01-20-19 03:51 PM

don't understand all the hate on the young youtubers, its bringing alot more recognition to FD's and helping drive popularity of our cars. they are clearly not as knowledgeable as some of you on here, but they also don't claim to be.
