Tachometer and Speedometer/Odometer Replacement
 

Hi,

My tachometer and Speedometer/odometer are no longer functioning.

My FD sits on a tender in the garage months at a time and most of the time. It being a collector it does get pampered.

Seems like you can replace capacitors and other components that are out of spec but I want to see if I can replace the tachometer and the speedometer altogether with new parts available.

Found some parts new, is 95 JDM tachometer work for 94 USDM FD? Are the ATs have different tach as the manual?

How do you deal with transferring the mileage from old to new odometer?

Also found Atlanta Speedometer doing the repairs? Any experimeces with them?

I was planning to have RX Cluster Worx repair my cluster as they have some cool upgrade parts. They have a replacement tach with a flat face for aftermarket gauges and OLED odometer replacement screen which can display other info like boost, mph, etc. I'm not sure the status of everything as his website disappeared recently and when it was up, it said he paused repairing clusters since he was moving. I also sent him a message on here but haven't heard back. @zensation

I'm not sure what you gain with replacing with new old stock versus repairing.

I too was waiting on Geoff from RX cluster works to repair mine but he told me to check on him in October and I haven’t heard from him in almost a month so I’m gonna have to start looking for someone else to repair mine with my after market gauge faces

I did see his website is back up so maybe there is hope. I sent him an email so I will see where that goes.

Michael Gagne is the way to go, does excellent work and turns around most times in the same day.

I've had my cluster and some friends clusters done by him and just outstanding work. He also has a full test rig so he can totally test out the cluster and calibrate everything.

Is there anyone else or company that does gauge cluster repairs? Michael and Geoff haven’t responded for months so I’ve wrote them off.

I know Michael Gagne is still doing clusters. You really need to contact him through Facebook, that's the best way to get in touch.

He has been posting in the RX-7 group. He said shipping is a little slow due to problems with Canada Post right now but he is still doing clusters and does a top notch job.

I have had 13~15 clusters rebuilt by Michael. I am still sitting on about 9 because I don't try to actively sell.

I heard back from Michael. Will be going through him when I have time to take out my cluster.

Removing the cluster needs some careful manipulations.

When you go to remove the cluster surround and hood assembly, you need to pull the assembly straight toward your chest without tilting up in any way.

This will pull the hood out of its clips at the back.

Tilting up will cause the hood to snap.

The four wiring plugs at the back of the cluster are usually quite difficult and awkward to release. Prepare to be patient.

The clamshell that houses the turn signal stocks is also fragile. You need to avoid breaking off the position pins.

(Be prepared to buy a new clamshell.)

Don't leave the harness ends dangling in the dash. Cover them. They can short out against the metal rebar and cause a fire.

Canada Post was on strike until just the other day.

Maybe there was no point in receiving more cluster repair requests while the strike was on.

Also when you mail your cluster, declare the full amount. If you don't, and it gets lost, you can not collect more than you stated the value to be.

I understand if you’re within the country to send thru mail. But knowing the value of our clusters and the condition Canada post is in, would you want to risk it if you’re sending it outside of Canada?
id be using FedEx or ups if you’re not in Canada to ship a cluster.
Especially if it’s a really rare cluster.
Don’t skip on the declaration either. Most of our usual clusters go for about $400-500cdn. Anything other than the usual cluster, you better be declaring max value. You never know with people nowadays..

Due to values involved, there may be some reluctance to do business, if you have a low posting or trading record.

So many people that come on here with only one or two posts, turn out to be scammers.

I don't have Facebook. I messaged him through Instagram. It shows he seen it. Is there anyone else that can fix these gauges? Is there number or email? I've also emailed Jeff Pritchett, no answer either.

not sure how to help you. I would just make a FB to be able to message Michael. I wrote off Geoff as he told me to contact him in October on a status update on his shop move/rebuild and he’s ghosted me since

I know this is late but I took my FDs speedometer to atlanta speed o meter, good people as far as I can tell but they kinda jacked up my cluster so I have to take it to another shop. They also didnt really fix my gauge cluster on my truck either so I personally wouldnt trust them unless its like super basic stuff.
