Smooth idle and rev poor acceleration

Perfect idle and rev but when I press on gas it sputters and backfires badly no power. Any ideas on what this may be? 1995 fd rx-7.

Could be Limp Mode…
Are you on the stock ECU?
Is this a RHD or LHD car?
If LHD do yo have a Check Engine Light?

Other thoughts…
Check the hose going to the boost sensor.
I think there’s a test set out in the FSM on the Throttle Position Sensor
Possibly a fuel delivery (pump) issue.

This is a LHD on stock ecu with CEL. Light came on one day went off the next.
Brand new Keg with 1000 miles on it. Car is pretty much stock sans apexi intakes Bonez down pipe and cat with racing beat dual exhaust. Also boost gauge.

I’d follow the procedure for pulling the codes set out in the link. There’s probably one or more stored.
Limp mode is protective, and triggered when the ECU senses an issue with a critical system on the car. It will not advance timing and cuts fuel under any load (i.e. if vacuum is lost in the intake manifold). The car will idle fine and rpm’s can be increased very slowly, but no power. You can just “limp home”.

Not all codes cause limp mode, IF that’s what is causing the issue. Probably most common CEL codes that cause limp are any one of the three associated with the MOP/OMP. (See link).
