RX7 FD Condensor
Hey,
Searched the forum for any replacement AC condensors for the FDs and came across the R-Magic condensor, but would prefer the OEM unit. Can't seem to locate the stock condensor anywhere online. Is there anyway to get the OEM condensor? Anyone have any links to a website/store/shop that might be able to help. Any info would be appreciated. Looking for a direct replacement on this issue. Cheers :icon_tup: |
Well which one do you need, the mana or denso?

I'm selling a mana in the for sale section... Was sent by the previous person thinking it was a denso. Found a denso and now have this one in a box.

RX8 Condensers are about 50-100$, and have the drier built in, i havent personally installed mine yet but i plan on getting custom lines made to run that. ive seen a few people on here who have successfully used them. it will also require custom brackets.

Has anyone fitted the RX8 unit yet? |
For folks with Mana systems there is an alternative to hacking up your system to retrofit non-standard parts. There are air conditioning restoration shops around that specialized in restoring non-available air conditioning parts like our condenser. For something like a condenser, cleaning up the corrosion, straightening the fins and sealing any pin hole leaks is relatively easy. Search for "air conditioning restoration" to find a shop or ask around to at a Cars and Coffee with a lot of 50s and 60s car owners.

Yes, I have. They work great and come as one unit (condenser and drier). I use it on my 3 rotor.
any more details? |
Here is a pic of the RX8 condenser installed. Not the best pic, but it shows how the unit is installed. I have a v-mount setup, so the condenser is located between the radiator and the intercooler. Because the drier (you can see it on the right side of the condenser) is part of the condenser, it's an easier install than the FD units. The lines are all custom made to fit the location of the condenser.

Hey david hayes , is the rx8 condenser larger than fd condenser? And thicker ? Might be worth investing
I wonder if itll fit with a 99 rebar with out cutting anything |
It's been a while since I did this, but I think the sizes are similar. The RX8 condenser is roughly 24 X 12.5 X 0.5 inches. Maybe someone could measure the OEM FD one and report back.

Hi David, do you have a close-up pic's? If you don't mind...... also did you use custom fittings. I am trying to piece mine together. I was looking at Vintage air.

Not going to be of much help, unfortunately. With the v mount, I just can't take any pics that will help without pulling everything apart. Tried last night to no avail. KIlo Racing did the AC fab work for the lines and fittings. I am not sure what he used but I am sure they are generic AC components, not specific to the FD.

Hi David! I actually mounted the rx8 condenser and made custom lines to work with my FD compressor and v mount. I wasn’t sure if you can share how kilo got the pressure switch from the rx8 to work with the rx7 connector on your setup...
The rx7 pressure switch / connector is near the driver side headlight. The connector has two wires. The rx8 pressure connector has 4 wires.

^ First, nice looking work. Very clean. Been under the weather the last few days but I will go out to the car to see if I can find the solution for you. I an sure you could call Kilo and ask Jesus what he does as he's done this on several cars.
Will get back to you in the next day or two. |
Thank you! I appreciate you getting back to me. I will try and reach out to Jesus. I hope they can provide some insight.

Thanks guys for posting this... my stock condenser is in very sad shape and when I go v-mount, would love to replace it (AND get rid of the stupid dryer can on the bumper support) by going to the rx-8 version. Gonna look so clean (even if it will be mostly hidden, I will know haha)! :D

I will try to do a write up once I finish the project. (Brackets, Measurements, Lines and all....)
