Rubber floor mats?

I have done plenty of searching and just could not find if anyone makes a floor mat for the FD.

I don't mean a winterized one, I just mean a plain, decent looking rubber mat that might even say "RX7" on it.

I am really surprised that nobody has made a set as I have been looking for quite some time for these.

I guess you could say I'm "floored".

I bought a set from Tri-Point Engineering. My mats match the tan leather seats & carpet nicely. They are not rubber. I think rubber mats would look terrible in a nice car.

I'm sure that there are lots of places that sell floor mats.

While this isn't what you're looking for, I use a rectangular floor mat about 10" x 12" that fits under the pedals. Keeps me from abusing the stock mats too much.

Dave,

What do you use to protect the 10 x 12 mat? I have steel plate that protects my mat protector, which protects the mat, which protects the carpet. I put a rubber slip proof cover over the protective steel plate, so I don't scuff it. What should I put over the rubber to keep it from wearing? :D

Sounds like your making a sandwich!

Haha. I would think a $7 rubber mat to protect irreplaceable stock floormats would make a Cheap Bastard proud. :)

TRISPEEDFD3S 11-14-07 02:04 PM

Why don't you just use the stock style mats from rx7.com. If you want rx7 on them really bad, then take the rx7.com mats and get it sewn on them.

You didn't look hard enough. Weathertech, which IMO is the best rubber mat around, offers them for the FD in both black and tan.

www.weathertech.com.

*special note. I would never put rubber mats in my own car, much less drive it in winter, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

trickshot 11-14-07 02:15 PM

I should add......I had Weather tech mats in two other cars. They're not always a perfect fit, but they're usually close enough. Looking at the mats shown on the website for the FD they're not the same shape as my carpet mats, but they should cover enough for your purposes. What's posted on the website seems to be a generic picture of front floor mats. I know some of their rear mats are made to be trimmed to fit. You can always call them on the phone to see what they say about fitment for the FD. The website has an 800 #.

I saw the weathertech mats, and thought they looked just like winter. Not really the look I wanted with all the louvers.

Anyhow, I also own an Acura RSX as a DD, and they make a factory rubber floor mats that I purchased that look fantastic. Keep in mind it is a factory part, but still they look really nice, they have a smooth finish, and serve the purpose well. They don't look like you went to Autozone and bought a set of universal mats.

I am surprised there has been no requests for them. I thought for sure there would be a GB started somewhere. I think a nice clean rubber mats look good with leather seats.

Someone make these, please.

Those grooves hold in the water or melting snow, which is the only reason to have low rent rubber floor mats in the first place.

It may be that many FD drivers (like myself) don't drive the car in bad weather, and therefore don't want rubber mats. You should also remember that there are very few of our cars around, so manufacturers won't be selling to many products built for us.

"Low rent"

HaHa! Tears coming out of my eyes!

I drive my car maybe 3x a week in only the best weather. And still, carpeted mats get dirty fast. No doubt. Someone should make a set and put the logo on the side.

Bumping a dead thread for future FD owners.

I bought the Weathertech Floor Mats last year in May, forgetting that I don't drive this car in rain or snow (Subaru mentality kicking in). Although they are high quality, the ones they made for the RX-7 were not even close to OEM fitment. The size was too big, the clutch pedal gets caught, and there's no room to adjust front and back. You're better off with a generic set of floor mats if you need them to be rubber.

FD3S2005 12-24-16 06:37 PM

I'd be in for a gb.. the top of my mat is at about 60% but the bottom worn 100% of that rubbery substance and now the mat moves around very easily and miss aligns when I get in and out the car

hadokenny 12-27-16 01:29 PM

Cocomats.com... Not rubber though but hands down best quality mats you can get for decent price. Hand made in US.

Had them on my porsche and BMW. Custom ordered a set for my RX7 and they turned out great. I sent them a template for the RX7 floor mats so they should be able to make a set for you. Mine fit great.

Most of the RX7 aftermarket floor mats just look cheap. Even the RX7.com ones.

I do just about the same thing only I am using one of the rear seat rubber floor mats from my old STi.

Sounds pretty good:). How about a picture, and a price?

Not the greatest pic but here it is. I think they were $180 for the set. They have different styles and patterns... I think the checkered pattern would like great on the RX7...like the JDM ones.

Thank you.

Lloyd Rubbertite, totally custom fit rubber mats. I have used them in a number of cars including my FD and love them.

Why have you not shipped the choke clips?
