Replacement Audio suggestions
 

I have a 93 Touring, with the Bose subwoofer system. It is getting old and some of the speakers including the Bose subwoofers are not working anymore. I would like like to replace the Dash unit with a system that will give me Sirius XM reception, FM, AM, and Bluetooth for cell phone reception. I want to keep the speaker locations and the Bose Subwoofers if possible. I do not need nor want a CD player (nor a cassette tape player). Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks,

If you're happy with the Bose system, give Bose Automotive a call and see if they have any replacement speakers in stock. Last I heard from them stock was getting pretty thin, but they still had the front speakers.

Of course, you'll want to make sure it's not just your amps going bad. Each speaker has it's own amp, and they do fail over time. I don't have any advice on how to check your amps other than a visual inspection for any burn marks/blown capacitors, but other members may have some ideas.

If it's just tired amps, there are places that repair our single channel Bose amps for ~$80 (some of them will even warranty the repairs for "life"). There are 5 amps in my car, so that could get pricey.

If you go with keeping the Bose, hooking up an aftermarket single din radio is fairly easy. You'll want the Scosche adapter, and a harness adapter (I don't have the part numbers on me right now, but Crutchfield will provide them if you order from there).

There is one pin on the adapter harness you'll need to swap. It is well documented on this forum if you search for it. I installed a Kenwood KDC-X998 with my stock Bose system for what it's worth, and I'm happy with it.


If you decide to go with aftermarket speakers, the resistance on them is probably not going to integrate well with the factory amps. I'd either repair the stock system, or install a complete audio system (ie anywhere you use an aftermarket speaker, remove the bose amp and feed the speaker with an aftermarket amp instead).

You could try going aftermarket in the front, and keep the soundwave in the back, but I don't have any experience with that, and it might not sound great.
