Replacement alternator through bolts

Hey guys -

Stumbled across this -

Alternator Thru Bolt Set, M5-0.8, 2.38" / 60.5mm L, Phillips Hex Head - A414X19271 - Alternator 2001-2005 Subaru Outback 3.0L (ref# A003TB1891, 23700-AA401) - 13888

A little pricey, but NEW through bolts for alternators. There are 4 skinny bolts that hold the case of the alternator together and over time they start to look old and crappy. I'm 99% sure these are correct and will work on our alternators.

You should be able to do this easily with the alternator in the car, just replace them one by one.

Anyone want to guinea pig it?

Mazda number is RF71-18-W20 it says screw set, $14.91 list price, and they have plenty. who knew?

Damn! I had no idea Mazda would have that as a separate part!

Is that part number for 4 bolts?

Googled around, that looks like just one bolt. If so, the link above may be a better deal. But it's cool that Mazda has it!

I'd just send the originals off to be plated if they're not too corroded. You'll end up with a better finish that'll last longer if you go for something like coloured zinc. I did all the bolts on the underside and running gear of my car, wasn't very expensive.

That's totally a great way to go if you can find a good plating shop. For whatever reason it seems there aren't many in the US or they are harder to find. I think part of it may be environmental regulations.
