got the original feed lens cover form feed /japan.


they don't have the "black outer line" anymore ...

Does it have a purplish tint? Looks like a blackish tint from the pics

Yes it has a purplish tint, the picture makes it look darker...

I got it straight from feed japan/osaka.

Curious to know why they don't have the black outline anymore.

The black outline is actually just spray painted on from the backside. My guess is it is a bit of a hassle to paint them on or they lost the template. You can create your own template out of poster board material, tape it onto the back side of the lense and spray away. The outline on the original feed lenses weren't an "exact" thing either.

I am surprised you were able to get them. Word on the street is they won't sell them unless you can prove you purchased an authentic bumper.

that was the main reason why I ordered the genuine feed.

You need the original feed bumper to be able to order the lenses,

I looked into producing these a few years back. We were quoted $5,000 for the tooling (molds, etc) and about $150 per pair and that doesn't include spraying on the outline, which does require some setup time etc..

At $250 a pair, we would have to sell 50 pairs just to come close to breaking even on the tooling. That is quite a bit of units to sell. Not to mention $250 was about the price of the authentic FEED ones, which people were able to acquire through RHDJapan without much issue.


Now it seems much more difficult to acquire, so we're looking into it again. I just spoke with a local manufacturer today who happens to make our Spoon style fog light covers (which is also a curved cover as the Feed's). In the case of the Spoon covers, we had to make the investment as there was really no alternative. With the Feed front bumper, you can still just run 99 spec lights as most people do. But of course the added covers really gives it that special exotic look.

Manufacturer says Feed lens covers are made of slightly tinted acrylic ( I brought my pair in as an example today). Acrylic is more scratch-resistant than bare Lexan, but over the years I have found myself having to constantly buff the lenses as it is directly exposed to road debris and wears rather quickly. They said I can opt to have them hard-coated for more wear resistance. I would much rather prefer that.

All in all, we would prefer a quality long lasting piece that is hard coated and with the outline applied ... both of which is not offered (or at least no longer) by FEED. If we do get this going, expect the pair to retail for $250-$300.

I forgot to mention something important to take note of when customers receive these lense covers. The original FEED lense covers are not perfectly symmetrical left and right side. It is about 90% symmetrical. That is because the area this mounts on the bumper is not perfectly symmetrical left and right side. It is actually unnoticeable. The non-symmetrical lense covers will fit the non-symmetrical bumper spot on. Our lense covers will also be non-symmetrical...just like the originals. If we made them perfectly symmetrical, one side will not fit on the bumper correctly. The reason why this is is because prototypes for body kits are usually done by hand and by eye. They could've done it differently to ensure it was symmetrical, but they didn't. Anyone with the original Feed lense covers can confirm this to be true. So if you get a pair of our version and realize they are not perfectly symmetrical, please know that it was intended to be manufactured that way so they can fit Feed or our Feed style bumpers.
