Is it okay to make new threads on old subjects?
 

Do you guys think its okay to make new threads on old subjects that have previously been discussed?

**I was going through some old threads from 2004-2010 and noticed how much of the information is wrong or even outdated, I don't mean this in a disrespectful at all to anyone... I honestly believe the community has gotten much more informed and knowledgeable + new tech has come out.***

Heck the entire car community seems to have gotten smarter from what I have seen.





Also I don't mean this in such way to support lazy people not searching

I think at this point, it should be encouraged that people make new threads on old subjects.... depending on what it is. As you said, there's a lot of new information and new tech where what was a problem years ago, no longer is or a product that may have been junk no longer is. Even methods and techniques have changed, Acceptable practices have changed and so on... a lot has changed and it would be great to have "modern" information on old topics.

1. Yes, as long as we keep the number of lazy people "making a new thread" just to be spoon fed down

5. No, the information is fine. We don't need to update the information just leave things as is

Interesting idea, seeing how these forums have been around a while and there are a lot of things that have already been discussed. If you are revisiting an old topic, I think it would be best to add your new posts in the original threads so people can see the history of what others have already discussed or tried. Another idea would be to post a link to the old thread in your new thread. For instance, if you create a new thread about V-mount vs front mount intercoolers specifically asking for new info, post a few links to other threads that show the old info about V-mount intercoolers or front mount intercoolers.

I love this idea! This way if someone finds the old thread and not the new one they can "travel' forward in time" and see the newer posts, plus we can track how our knowledge about subjects have changed thus allowing for comparison.:nod::nod:

There is a huge wealth of information on this forum. Personally I'd say like above, bump up the old relevant threads if you want to discuss or the topic further or add to it, that keeps all the relevant info in a single place to make it easier for others. I think most people use the forum as an information archive as nearly any question you can think of has already been discussed if you search for it. The downside to this being that it makes the forum very quiet which isn't so good.
