VA New Plates - Keeping It Simple

Fellow Members,

I am proud to announce and display a set of new plates that I put on my FD & Vert. If you see me around the Hampton Roads, VA area then say, "Hi"!

I find that the older I get, the more difficult it is to remember my plate numbers. Well, I don't think I can mess this up now! What do you think?

Talk about keeping it simple!

Cheers,
George

Very nice! I love custom tags.

"RX-7GURU" on my FD and "NOT RX-7" on my daily driver .

Thank you, Dale!

I remember your plate from DGRR last year. It suits you very well. I didn't think that RX-7 BAD-*** would fit on a FL tag because 1) it has too many characters; 2) DMV has a foul language policy; and 3) Chuck Norris already uses it on his RX-7.

Cheers,
George

Thumbs up

Yessir, I love custom tags as well. The piece de resistance as the French say

Here's a recent shot of me with my oldest FD buddy, you can see my pair of vanity plates. You also can see my license plate surrounds, which loosely translated mean "Officer, please don't throw me in jail...... I was still in fourth gear!"

Goodfella,

Thanks for sharing the pics! The best license plate frame I ever saw read: "Faster than a... [top row] SPEEDING TICKET [bottom row]" It was on a Porsche 911 during the mid 90s.

Cheers,
George

I had "WANKEL" on my VA plates for a while. I was excited when I found the plate was available and snatched them up.

As it turns out, the plate was NOT available. My friend Pierce also had the exact same VA plates at the exact same time on his FC. We found out when I made a facebook post about DMV screwing me (see below)

Eventually realizing their mistake issuing duplicate plates, VA DMV cancelled my registration and plates WITH NO WARNING OR NOTIFICATION! I didn't find out until months later when I tried to renew registration and they had no record of the vehicle registration.

To add insult to injury, during the time my plate was actually registered there was a rotary meetup in the VA beach area. Someone must have blown through the toll booth there without paying in an out of state SSM FD with "WANKEL" plates because they came after me for the charge based on the toll plaza photos.

Needless to say, I'm no longer a fan of vanity plates or giving DMV extra $ every year, so I now spend my efforts and money on other aspects of the car.

Alex,

Thanks for sharing your vanity plate experience. I am sad to hear that it was not a pleasant one. How long ago did that happen to you, especially the toll plaza incident?

Cheers,
George

Would have done it if they didn't have an annual fee for the special plates... Not that crazy to get them.

I've always had a love/hate relationship with vanity plates. For one thing, I sometimes drive very aggressively (not stupid, just aggressive) and it is one thing for a disgruntled pinhead to call you in with a "yeah, 911? There is this crazy bastard musta been doin' 130 mph, his tag is B L U B Y U...."
Instead of, "hell I don't know...some damned furrin' job...couldn't get the plate he went by so fast"

Not a shred of creativity, but I actually got a little tired of “what car is that?” questions. And it doesn’t get much simpler...

Sgtblue,

No, it doesn't get any simpler than that. Great photo of your car!

I don't really care, but it made for a funny story. My buddy and I couldn't believe it when we posted up nearly identical current registrations.

It was a couple years ago at most. It was the meet that I think Angel Motorports was promoting or put together.

kensin,

Were you a big fan of BBQ or was there an alternate meaning?
