Leaking oil cooler fittings
Hey all. I built my own oil cooler setup on my car. This was before the smart cooler came out.
I initially used all brand new vibrant fittings w vibant hose. Iv assembled hundred of fittings on hose throughtout the years. I have the adjustable wrenches, the cutters, aluminum plates for vice, use silicone grease on assembly, etc. I know for a fact none of the threads are galled and they come apart and back on w ease. W all of this being said, the 2 fittings to fittings on top of the cooler and on the thermostat absolutely will not seal 100%. Its more of a "weep." I swapped out one fitting w a summit one to test it to no avail. I even called vibrant and they recommended the 37° conical caps which didnt do anything, either. Im at a bit of a loss here, and really dont want to put xrp wiggins clamps on such a hilariously simple setup that shouldnt be leaking. I love the smart cooler, but this setup works and is totally new. Unless the seat was mangled, or the manufacturing process was shite, I don't know why they'd be recommending a flare seal!
Are you sure it's leaking at that connection? Hard to make out, it looks like the adaptors are screwed straight into the cooler and thermostat, I'd be using crush washers under all four at least, more than likely dowtys though. |

I experienced what I would also describe as a weeping during my oil cooler install. After observing my fittings leak initially, I put SECO7 37° conical seals in place at those fittings then ran the car back up to temperature and I experienced less of a leak but still a tiny bit. At that point I let the car fully cool and tightened the fittings just a little bit more, then brought the car up to temp again and no leaks since.
