Yes you can. There was one a few weeks back for sale in Dallas. Stock with red exterior but lots of miles.

Not UNDER $25k, but still close enough to have me raising my eyebrows in surprise...and jealousy?

Here's a local one....5 minutes from my house. $27,995 at a dealer, no less..

Yup....not gonna lie...I'm impressed.

Buddy of mine bought his for $23k. Like the Supra, rarity drives up price.

Viking War Hammer 04-05-11 06:44 PM

I thought you were asking about good condition? That is NOT good condition. There is a reason it hasn't sold in MONTHS.

Year?Miles? Maintenance history?

All you have to do is take at look in the classifieds on NSXPRIME.

yzf-r1 04-05-11 06:47 PM

It was a '91 with about 75k - clean, though

Viking War Hammer 04-05-11 06:49 PM

Automatic will drive down the price considerably. Gotta make sure Timing Belt/Water Pump and Clutch etc etc have been documented. You'll easily spend $7,000 doing the scheduled maintenance.

lol, I'm not looking to purchase either of these NSX's, let alone do any kind of thorough research on their maintenance history. I guess I was more-or-less proving a point to myself, that their prices are at least reasonable enough to consider as an alternative to an FD.

If anything, I'm somewhat supporting the idea of owning an NSX, as a respectable and commendable choice.

Don't nuke this, Viking.

ALPSTA 04-05-11 07:05 PM

Japanese sports cars from 90s era are special to me and to me they are like cousins. Supra, GTR, NSX and RX7 all have strengths and weaknesses. I try not to discriminate between them and I wanted to own each one at different times of my life. If I was collecting cars, these 4 and few other Japanese cars from 90s would definitely be in my collection.

So the bottom line is there is no point trying to compare RX7 and NSX as manufacturers designed both to provide driving thrills, just went in different directions about it.

?

Not even close. A car that dog slow is not exotic by any defintion. The stock NSX is laughable in terms of acceleration.

that has to be the dumbest thing i've heard

That's like saying an aston martin DB7 isn't an exotic, because honestly those are pretty damn slow. (Compared to other cars it was competing with)

yzf-r1 04-05-11 07:28 PM

"Exotic" to me includes "quick" (among other characteristics), but to each his own. I guess my dad's tractor was an exotic by the defintion of some

Again - I never once said the NSX is not a great car or that Honda doesn't know how to build great motors, if I believed that I wouldn't own an S2000. I just don't understand the ricers and Honda fanbois gushing over the looks of the thing, it looks dated - period - when I see one I look, sure, but it's more of a 'look at that 90s batmobile going down the road'

All this talk about BATMAN, I'm paging Allen.

Alain loved his FD - I'd be a bit surprised if he thought his NSX looked better but who knows - then he bought a Goat.

There's nothing wrong with owning a "Batmobile"...

Sure, the NSX's styling is very "90's"...but that's it's that nostalgic styling backed by proven performance (stock & potential) that makes the NSX a sweet car, for street AND track.

Supra, RX-7, Skyline, NSX, Silvia, VR-4, 300ZX TT, 240-260-280Z's and their respective predecessors....all respectable replacements for a former FD owner, IMO.

bewtew 04-05-11 08:45 PM

i have to admit that nsx's are very nice looking and they handle very well but they lack a lot of power and to make them fast is very expensive.

and whoever said that NSX's and FD's are not exotics is smokin crack! how often do u see one? not ever!

Viking, thanks for making this point... I know, maintenance on these car can go pretty high,.. and maybe this is the reason for why some of these car are so pricey.

But if you go read the RX7 vs. NSX thread on NSXprime, you will see MANY NSX owners dogging on FD for its reliability issues.. I'm sorry but when someone spends 7K (equals to 2 x REW motors) on just maintenance updates shouldn't really compare... Of course, I'm sure 7K bill is from an Acura dealer...

Either case, I do like how clean your car is. Now, tell me how much would it cost to make 97+ NSX to make mid 300 at the wheels??

damn 7k?!?! what's that a new engine? and i thought the maintenance on my m5 was expensive..

i bet it would cost close to 10k or more to make over 300whp

Herblenny 04-05-11 09:08 PM

Well, That's the thing about NSX's (I'll be honest, I been outdated on what you can do to these cars since 06), they are meant to keep it pretty much stock and just enjoy them as stock. They are like most exotic cars, stock cars will sell better and worth more in the future.. Like that white Veilside NSX... I've seen that car last year in Nashville and its actually pretty nicely done (nice paint job etc). But that's been on Ebay for I think 6+ months (Yes, I do once every few months to see if NSX price have dropped or not). Bottom line, I'm glad I own an FD where there are far more choices and platforms at reasonable price...

That's dealer prices. Depending on dealer, the timing belt/waterpump job will cost between $1,500-$2,700. Stock clutch is $2,786.50 plus $1,000 labor.

Of course, dealer prices are ridiculous. Maintenance could be done alot cheaper if you do the work yourself and or buy aftermarket parts (Clutch).

If you're doing the timing belt/water pump yourself, you could easily do it for $450.

So, prices are the same as a FD. You know how much the dealer would charger for a turbo's plus install or the engine.

Mid 300 whp? Buying new parts: $10,000 + / Buying used parts $5,000 +

I can get in this car, run the hell out of it, not a single worry about it breaking, getting a bad tank of gas, clunking, rattling, smelling like fuel; all with the AC on and getting 30 mpg. I couldn't do that with any of my RX7's, even my last street RX7. All of my friends in STL eventually sold their 7's because of the same issue, they were always on jack-stands, even with professional tunes, shit breaks.

Well, turbo kits are selling between $6,000-15,000. Once you're there, you're golden.

Power can be made.

Anyone who actually pays that much for a new clutch on the batmobile needs to get checked into a rubber room imo

Conservative tune and moderate boost and these engines are very reliable for the power per cc they are cranking out. Clunks and rattles happen with any old car - thank you Superpro for making mine disappear.

Fact is I will out-handle and out-power 90% of the batmobiles on the road and look better doing it. I like raw, obnoxious, smelly, two stroke whiplash ass kicking power. Let's get it on.
