How to value your FD

So, you are saying that the rate of increase in the price of FD's is less than the current rate of increase in Supra prices? Hmmm. Could be. You are close to the Supra market, but I had actually thought FD prices were increasing faster. I should check Hagerty at least, I suppose.

mdp... That's the MKIII and not the MKIV, which is significantly more expensive. Concours MKIV's are $90,000.

Always Bad Advice
I have to, admit I know nothing about Supras, and have little interest in them. But, a quick check with Google and it looks like production of the Mk4 began in April 1993 and production if the Mk3 ended in May 1993. Hagerty list the last Mk3 production as 1992 models and the first Mk4 production as a 1993 models. I leave it to the Supra fans to enlighten us.

Also your last pic for the 1992 comparison wouldnt be fair either, as that is a N/A FC. 1991 is the last they show for the turbo FC.

The 97 Jade Green Supra was a 6 speed and a 97, but it was Jade Green and not a desired color but rare. With 62k miles it brought $79k with fees. That’s more then even the 4K mile Fd brought. It is still difficult in this market to sell a 50k mile FD for $30k, most seem to bring $25-30k at this time. This same 50k mile Fd would have been $17-20k 3 years ago which is still a great improvement. If you list a 50k mile 6 speed Supra for sale for $60k right now it will sell within an hour. It’s current value depending year and condition is $65-85k. The FD market is getting stronger but I still feel the Supra is out pacing it.

i don’t think any of us can say with certainty one way or the other. The highest price 65k mike FD I’m aware of selling is Adams 94 CW car in Cali which sold for $35k. I believe he found the right buyer and not sure that would be an easy sale again. That was also with the current most desired color of a FD.

There are probably more Supras listed on Autotrader than FDs. The tide is turning
PS easily sold my 94 CW PEG with 52k miles for good money (not even listed). I think it would have brought 40k plus if professionally listed etc.....

As far as the Supra not aging as well, From the side and rear its still a great looking car. From the front it looks too bubbly. However, getting FD guys to understand the value of the supra and vice versus will likely never happen, Very few can grasp both. FD owners made a decision somewhere in life that driving experience trumps all.....like reliability, comfort, quality, noise, smell and convenience. Surpa owners decided for the all around better built vehicle with much more comfort and reliability but lack driving experience and looks(my opinion anyways). A lot of Supra guys are also very egotistical/attention craving as the car does pull way more attention(from dudes) then the FD does. The average FD owner is often of an engineering or mechanical background. To each their own and I want to believe like you guys the FD is catching up but its not at this time.

I think now is a good time to remind viewers of the sales price database that was started a while ago. Responses have slowed into 2019 but are still trickling in. If anyone wants to collaborate on this please to plot data or other things PM me, the other gentleman who was working on this sold his FD.

Because it was CW. These other cars aren't moving that fast. Selling a CYM or CW FD is similar to the a RSP or QS Supra. A non turbo low mileage 98 QS Supra would likely bring equal or more money then the current record setting FD of $70k.

. The biggest difference is that the Supra guys put like 90% of the money and effort into the engine to make it go as fast as possible, while FD guys care more about the balance of the car. With a moderately sized single turbo, the Supra really wakes up and the driving experience is also really good. .

Every Supra buddy of mine lost their minds when I bought mine and I removed the 71mm turbo and installed a 58mm turbo. The car was fun and responsive and made 500/450 at the wheels on pump gas. AC was ice cold but I never loved the car. I like them and still do, just don’t give me the same thrill as a Fd.
I like the supra and a lot of other cars (not worth owning). At this point to me the Supra doesn't look great from any angle. 20 years ago I thought it was badass.
I love the FD along with the GT3 and not much else LOL (worth owning)

Like we've been saying you will have no issues selling CW, R2, Base 94/95, SSM PEP or PEG/black etc....
Good luck selling that 93 mb or VR/tan touring with high mileage though

So, as long as this is the pricing thread. Who wants to guess what a 1993 MB Touring 5spd, 2 owner, 55k miles, reliability mods done (Koyo rad, metal AST, ceramic coated DP), but otherwise stock car would fetch later this summer? Cosmetically it's definitely in the nice driver range, but has chips/etc as you'd expect for a car of it's age.

So what kind of market value does a fresh engine rebuild and new paint job fetch? Does that reset the mileage clock?
My 125,000 mile personal car has about 5,000 miles on the engine rebuild and now 0 miles on the paint. Given that it's mostly stock/unmolested and the interior is an 8.5/10 where would if fall on the mileage range?

A very high quality paint job can improve value while a cheap respray will hurt the value. NEW factory motor increases value, rebuild may or may not help depending upon compression who/how it was built etc.... A good stock motor with 75k miles can be a much better engine than a rebuild done poorly.
