I'd take MB tan over VR tan any day.

Yep for a DD car my colors would be: SSM, MB, CW, BB, VR, CYM

For a Collector/show car: VR all the way

Its funny that CYM is still the one no one wants to be seen in but is the most coveted. Its the reason Mazda only sold 350 in the first place.

It secretly ranks #1 for you. It's alright though, everyone knows so you don't have to admit it!

Different strokes for different folks and that's what keep this world interesting . As my list of preferred FD colors is CW, BB, MB, CYM, SSM and last VR.

I'm not a fan of CYM's (I don't the flake it has) *but* I love yellow sports cars in general. Hence, the reason I painted my FD velocity yellow (C6 color). Funny thing about yellow cars is that it really brings out some violent reactions out of people. Either they just LOVE it and I mean love it as in literally people go ape **** ove it. Or they HATE it, and really hate it, so much that I dare say actually loathe it.

Take you for example, you hate it so much that in your mind no one else could possibly even remotely like one let alone be seen in one. That's pretty extreme in itself if you think about it.

The bat 93 bb/red auto sold for 14252 or approx 15k final price: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-mazda-rx-7-59/

The market for the FD is very strong

Our color favorites are polar opposite

CYM is one of my favorite yellows because of the gold flake and I love the vintage red (deep blood red color).

Fritz,

Agree on both of your comments. $15k for a beat up FD with unknown miles and an automatic trans is amazing. As for VR, color is such a personal thing but I think it is easily the best color on the FD. As you said, it is a true, blood red that to me really highlights the beautiful lines of the FD. By contrast, Porsche's Guards Red is a color I'd never own, way too orange. Porsche has a newer color called Carmine Red that is very close to VR, much more to my liking. But again, different strokes....

ha ha yep it appears that we are on polar opposites. Don't get me wrong, though the VR is at the bottom of my list it doesn't mean that I dislike it. It is just not my favorite. Though white is at the top I'm not a white car kind of guy, and hence why I never painted mine that color.

The only color scheme that I do not like is the 93 tan interiors. Only the 93's as I like the 94-95's (seats and carpet only). Too much tan for me on the 93's...

Yep sometimes a simple variation of the color can make or break it for a person. One of my favorite reds is on Audi's TT MK1 . Just a deep dark red.

Haha. It’s what yellow represents to me. It’s a dire need for attention that it calls out. “Please someone notice me, I need your attention for validation” is what it screams on a Mazda or corvette to me. Nothing personal it’s just how I have always felt. I’m not a car show or “scene” guy though. I do not want the attention when I’m in any car. Then again I think H2’s are extremely douchey yet I love them and I would definitely want a yellow one if I ever pulled the trigger. If you are going to be “that guy” you might as well go all in.

No offense taken. But truth be told, such detailed inference can be quite telling about the viewer's own insecurities. I mean it's just a color but you take it as a barometer of a whole personality type. Which couldn't be farther from the truth because when I decided to paint my car I didn't even think about the attention and was actually quite surprised with people's reactions after the fact. I simply like yellow sports cars very much like someone else who likes silver/black/red cars.

An interesting thing about your perception of the color yellow is that someone else could make that exact inference about any visual enhancement that you make to your car. For instance take wheels: Someone else could make the argument that the only reason you added aftermarket wheels to your street car is because you want people to notice you. Which is extremely silly and that is why I said it tells about personal insecurities that person has.

YEP the 93 tan interiors are awful. I can do black and tan but that's it.

The silver and red or black and red is striking at 1st glance but I don't want to live with it.

I love black added to any color so I prefer black interiors and lots of black trim. Black on black is too much though. I've had several CYMs and when you toss some black wheels etc... on it it's bad *** looking ride.

The yellow H2 is actually not bad because of all the black trim you can add. Although it's so big it also gives you that school bus vibe LOL

PS I also think H2s are cool and it's not because I want attention I just dig anything with wheels.

Except wheels don’t stand out 300’ across the parking lot like a glowing yellow car. It’s obviously a personal bias for you that you can’t detach from. There is a reason Mazda only sold 350 in the US. There is a reason most cars aren’t offered in yellow. My insecurity lies with my balding hair line, not the color of a car someone chooses to get attention.

Ive always liked them for some reason. The yellow just makes it that much more cringey which I figure you might as well go all in on the largest and most under performing off road vehicle.

Neither can you as the analogy is identical whether you admit it or not. Because as I said earlier, to someone else who has a bigger hang up about who knows what the wheels send that same exact message "oh look at me with my shiny new wheels, check it out how I stand out from the crowd with my nice lowered stance". Same thing brother... and that inference comes from some deep rooted crap that is going on in that person's head that has nothing to do with you.

Could it be that most don't like it? Most likely, I will say though that I'm secure enough that I do not have an issue with liking a color that doesn't appeal to most. I chose this color for me and me only.

I'm not too convinced that's where it ends. Because without ever speaking to a person you see driving by, you openly admit that you formulate that the only reason they like that color is because they crave attention. The fact that you can't fathom that they simply like the color for the color itself says a lot.

Edit- This is getting repetitive. Can we just agree that you see yellow cars as a need for attention while completely ignoring the possibility that a person might actually like that color? And that at the same time, I will entertain that there are people out there that choose that particular color for the sole reason of getting attention.

I'll help bury the FD color debacle- The definitive color ranking-- SSM, BB, VR, CW, CYM, MB. Goes to show my mediocrity owning a VR car. And black interiors on all except silver.

This FD color debate is funny... Another angle to this is how we associate colors based on the other cars we've seen painted in the same color. For example, I grew up in NYC, so I associate yellow with taxi cabs - and all the gross & smelly crap that one typically associates with a taxi ride! Hence I will NEVER own a yellow car.

No, we can't agree. Yellow is a plea for attention for whats lacking in someone's life. You being so bothered by my thoughts of those willing to drive a yellow car and effort to justify otherwise clearly proves that.

On a serious note, I'm only trolling but must admit this is the exact response I expected from someone willing to paint their car yellow. It's probably my deep rooted insecurities clouding my vision though right?

Switch MB in front of CW and we are on the same page. I don't even like CW FD's yet I own one, it hides the lines of the FD too much. However, if someone disagrees with my color preference they clearly have some insecurities they aren't willing to recognize.

I think you're absolutely right about psychological association. For me- Silver was the color of cars my parents always owned when I was a kid, so my mind goes back to positive memories of yesterday. Black was the color of my first FD, Red is the color of my current FD, Next, white as I owned a white '93 626, yellow next becuase it is too loud and attracts too much attention, MB a distant last because it reminds me of the horrible sweater vests my mom made me wear to church when she forced me to go when I was a kid, and MB just plain does not stand out enough and make a statement to such a timeless design.
