HKS HiperMax Adjustment

Hello,

So I know this has been beaten to death on other threads but I still am unsure about this. If the answer is out there and I stupidly missed it, please let me know and I apologize in advance

I recently pulled the HKS HiperMax off my car and after giving them a clean was curious what setting they are set at. They are supposed to be 30 way adjustable, so I figured that regardless of what way I turn the number subtracted from 30 will be the number of clicks the other direction.

After counting 10 clicks in the counter-clockwise direction I feel a clean hard stop. I then went back clockwise 10 clicks to my start point. I then assumed that I would have 20 more clicks to go in the clockwise direction, then hit a stop. But I counted more like ~26 and did not find the clean firm stop i did the other end.

So my question is what is the correct way to count the "clicks"?

The clicks are easier to count at the counter-clockwise end and harder to “feel”/count on the fully clockwise end. If I start fully counter clockwise and turn click by click clockwise, I can easily feel 30 clean, definite clicks. But I can then I can keep going for 6 or so more. These last 6 clicks get progressively harder to “feel” but do not require force.

Can anyone clarify this for me please?

Thanks, Tom

May want to contact HKS to get the manual for them, their support is usually very good. I think HKS USA closed down, don't know if you can email them in Japan, may be worth a try.

Thanks Dale,

I should have mentioned this in my original post but did not want to confuse things.

I have the manual (in English no less lol!) but there are two problems:

1) It assumes there are only 30 clicks and makes no provision for ambiguity.
2) It states you start at full hard (fully clockwise) then count back. Which would be fine, if the "hard stop" and the easy to count clicks were at the hard end....

Bottom line - if HKS said count up from full soft (counter clockwise) towards full hard (clock wise) and not to go past 30 clicks, then this would all be super easy.

Unfortunately its the reverse. Meaning I am questioning my starting point......

you have to start from full hard, because you're literally turning a screw that has a detent in it. full soft is just a couple turns before the screw comes out altogether

Resurrecting an old post here.

For anyone in the future having a similar issue the solution is to adjust them when they are on your car with weight on them......

I was playing with them out of the box, once I had them on the car with the wheels on the ground there was no ambiguity and the 30 clicks made much more sense!

This is correct. Always do your adjustments starting from full stiff on each shock. Your adjustment settings should be x number of clicks from full stiff to be consistent on all 4 corners.

to add to this, one should adjust the shocks full still, drive it. adjust them full soft and dive it, and then try 50% and drive it. this will calibrate the butt dyno.
