Fog Lights Off with High Beams

My 1993 Touring failed safety inspection because my fog lights don't turn off when high beams are on. Can anyone confirm if this is how it came from the factory or was my fog lights modified to stay on? I've had the car for 5 years so don't know the previous history. Any tips or how to's on best way to rewire so fog lights only work with low beam? TIA!

That’s pretty standard, foglights turn off in all my daily when the high beam trigger. You can bypass that by feeding foglights source to a switched 12V, you’ll probably have to do some wire tracing to find out.

By "fog lights" do you mean the parking lights (in the same housing as the turn signal), or the auxiliary driving/fog lights? I've never noticed that the parking lights turn off with high beams on. I don't think that was a thing in 1993. You're in Virginia. Register your car as an antique and you won't need to deal with it.

I noticed VA inspectors had become downright eccentric in their "rulings" and there's no arguing with them even if they are full of it. I had inspectors fail me for having a suspension that was "too stiff", and for brake pad deposits on my brake rtotors (it's a track car, so when you swap pads it takes a while to wear the old deposit off). Total nonsense. I'm glad to be rid of it.

Fog lights meaning the auxiliary driving lights. Thought the inspector was joking when he told me I failed because of my fog lights. I told the guy I found it odd that my car never failed inspection before. His response was the past inspectors didn't do their job right. The funny thing is I've been taking my car for inspection to this same gas station for the past 5 years.

I will look into antique plates and tracing the wires. Another option I was thinking was to remove the fog lights and then put them back on after inspection.

Thanks ZE Power and Ptrhahn!

Just turn off or remove the driving/fog lights when you take it for inspection. I think he's full of crap but they should shut off it isn't even mandatory to have them on in the first place.
