Fitting a drain plug to the gas tank
Hi guys, it seems that the series 6s have a drain plug in the gas tank, but the series 8s do not.
I'm thinking about braising a steel threaded fitting on and fitting a cap, so that i can switch between e85 and pump easily. Will there be any potential rust issues on the inside of the tank from doing this? And if so is there a particular type of antirust treatment that is ethanol resistant to spray inside the tank after the braising? Cheers! |
Can you get rust in an area that is always submersed in fuel? I would've assumed no, but I could be wrong

Usual rust in these is caused by low fuel condensation cycles....can get pretty rusty internally, but the ethanol would scour it out. I seem to recall V5 S8s still had the bung too, before they went even further with the penny pinching. Rx7 import parts seem to be dying a death, but that bloke in Newcastle might be worth a go.
There's been a few tanks welded up conventionally, but brazing will work, just need to get rid of the sound deadener and alumised/galvanised coating....and of course purge fumes before the kerblammo! |
