hood release cable
Confirmed, hood release cable is 100% symmetrical. Ordered a 93usdm hood release cable for my 92jdm, worked perfectly without any modifications. Here are some pics for part# reference.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is the wiper arms, wiper motor, and wiper rack. They're quite different.

I have a wrecked LHD manual donor car and I’m looking at a RHD with a bad engine with auto. What parts would I have to source to complete the swap? I’m assuming the engine and transmission with most associated parts would swap, but sure there would be issues. I’m trying to decide if it would be cost effective or wait to find a LHD roller. Thank you in advance.

Sorry to revive a dead thread.
What about emissions equipment? Like, if you have a JDM RX7 with USDM exhaust(mid pipe w/ cat to stock mufflers) would it pass smog in CA? My dilemma is I have a 1992 RX7 Type R and I would rather not go through lab testing letting a bunch of random people mess with my car for $5000-10000, when I can do it for cheap or even free. But I do have a USDM exhaust system from my buddy. In theory, would the car pass smog or not? CARB is the only thing standing in my way of getting the car registered in California. Thoughts?

A USDM exaust would fit a JDM no problem, but it would be a bit tighter since the steering column interferes with the downpipe (thats why they have a dent at the top).
So the precat might be a tight fit, but the rest is identical.
Also, in Norway we got an official statement from Mazda saying that the engine needs load for the emission equipment to work, and thus the car needs to be on rollers for the smog. And since nobody got that, we get an automatic pass.

The biggest incompatibility is that JDM Front + Dash + Emissions wiring harnesses are designed to all connect and 1 passes through firewall on the opposite side from USDM one, so it would probably be much easier to just populate empty JDM emissions harness yellow connector pins and run the new emissions wires through the existing firewall hole in a dedicated plastic split flex tube, rather than using a USDM emissions harness or other wiring options to California ECU. ECU to engine connector distances differ from each firewall end.
The good news is that all the parts are cheap and bolt on, compared to amounts you mentioned in your post. It's doable,if you find a local RX7 owner who has taken his engine apart to walk you through JDM-Cali differences or compare your JDM rat's nest + LIM to US versions. Repinning your JDM harness to accept the extra 6 or 8 emissions wires to be California compliant, would be the most demanding aspect. (California uses the EGR connector behind the air pump that other states don't connect) The 1993 and 1994 wiring diagram PDF manuals have ECU pinouts near the end pages that will show which empty pins go to which solenoid. IIRC, emissions harness pin 3J connects to the EGR switch. 3M would need shielded wire if adding knock sensor if vacant on JDM ? Pin 4F to split air bypass solenoid,
4O to EGR, 4P to AWS solenoid, all highlighted in red on attached pinout + listed underneath. In case you're not familiar with attached diagram, top 2 yellow highlighted items are 16 + 26 pin, #3 +#4 female yellow Emissions harness connectors and ECU connector layout is below that, The white 12 + 22 pin connectors are from the Front harness and shouldn't differ from JDM.
Letters inside squares are wire colors or wire + stripe colors, ie: G/R -> green/red.

Ill add a few things from my experience with a RHD in the USA so far.
- windshield wipers (blades) intended for a LHD car will go right on the RHD car (same length)
- I just replaced all the coolant hoses under the hood, everything is the same except the 2 heater hoses (due to the heater core being on the opposite side for rhd).

Mazda RX-7 FD 1993-1995 Combination switch with clock spring FD01-66-120E
I have a 1993 LHD and needed to replace the comb switch assembly. I got a brand new combination switch from a right hand. It works but the little light by the key switch remains powered after the key is removed. All other functions work so far.
Does anyone have the circuit board wiring schematic for the PC boards so i can trace the wiring so i can verify if all else works. Or if someone already figured this out please let me know or I would appreciate the link.
Thanks
Alex

If the key hole light is staying on, there's not going to be many culprits. There's a switch in the ignition barrel that detects when the key is inserted, and the CPU#2 has the logic that runs it. Either that switch is bad/not connected or the circuit in CPU#2 is goofed up. I think there's a troubleshooting guide in the shop manual as well.
