FD Ceramic Window Tint Before and After!
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...5eb12db2a.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...6beff4904.jpeg So I wanted a tint for asthetic purposes with a functional side as well. It gets hot enough in a FD in general, let alone when you have a black interior, which brought me to the decision to get ceramic window tint. It protects it from infared and UV which results in heat reduction and protects the plastics which are notorious for being destroyed by sun damage. I went 15% hatch and sides, and wow very very noticeable in heat reduction on a hot summer day. (85 and sunny in Ohio today) let me know what ya think! |
Looks good! You are missing a front undertray.

So that’s whats supposed to go there 🤔 that’s the way I got it and I knew it looked a little “open” there lol |
I was interested in a spectra photosync tint to install on the front windshield so the dash stays cooler while driving and the ac doesn’t have to cool it down before it cools us. Tesla owners seem to appreciate it since they run on electric and need to not waste the charge on higher ac outputs.

I haven’t heard of that before, I was gonna start looking into windshield tints, I don’t want to tint to make it darker but tint to keep the heat off the dash like u said |
Car looks good and get that undertray pronto. You'll have overheating issues if you don't (it directs air to the radiator)

Tint is fine. Putting up a sun shade when it's sitting in the sun for a while is also helpful. And I agree with the above on undertray. I think you'll need the S8 version for that bumper.

go for 3m crystalline 90 or 70. Light enough to not hinder vision at night. I have 3m crystalline 70 on my front windshield. You cant even tell my car has front windshield tinted unless you put it next to a stock RX7. Cools the inside temp by a significant amount.

If that’s a 99 spec bumper with painted lip, which it appears to be, a USDM (ie normal US spec) undertray will fit. Think you can still get those new (search Ray Crowe) or you can post up a WTB |
^Thanks, wasn’t sure on the undertray. Not familiar with Ohio statutes, or how obvious it is, but be careful putting anything below the AS-1 line. |

wow yea you’re right you really can’t even tell, if you don’t mind me asking, how much does that type of tint usually run? |

In So Cal, windshield tint runs around $200-$250 for 3m crystalline.
thanks for the info on the under tray guys, I appreciate it, I saw they make an alluminum one by LBR I think? Depending how much a new oem one costs I may go that route |

which ceramic tint brand did you go with? I've got huper optik's ceramic tint on my RX-8 and it's awesome. My FD has some cheap tint done by a few owners ago which is darker and I can feel the sun burning me still. I also agree with hadokenny on 90% or 70% on the full front windshield if the shop will do it... it's illegal in many states so most shops won't as the fines make it cost prohibitive. I've got a permit and have it on my other cars and it's awesome. I'll probably do the 90% on my FD because even though most people can't tell I have 70% in the day time it does affect night driving more than I would want it to.

Looks incredible. I was going to wait on mine for awhile, but damn I live in SoFL. I didnt go ceramic and wish I did! Very nice. I couldn't drive it in the day without it!

The brand I went with was American standard window film, I don’t know if it’s a popular brand or not, I’ve never actually done research on it. It was just the only true ceramic window film available near me. I have nothing to personally compare it too but so far I couldn’t be happier. I was however told that there is a difference between a cheaper ceramic tint and a real ceramic tint, aside from the price being almost double for the real thing. |

HuperOptik is great tint, but I like Llumar more. I have had both on the same vehicle. The Huper started to peel and the guy wouldn't warranty it. Really ticked me off after spending $600. Went with Llumar the second round and like it more. It is more clear than the Huper and my interior is cooler.

wow, that's interesting the Huper peeled. What did your installer say was the reason for rejecting the warranty? He should've also given you paperwork following the install because it's a nationwide warranty where you could go to any authorized Huper Optik installer for warranty work.

I can’t believe he installed it over existing tint, I have absolutely no experience in window tinting and that doesn’t even seem like a good idea to me lol hopefully u get it sorted out and don’t get screwed |
