Climate Control Knobs
Hi guys,
I was looking at different photos of custom interiors that people have made and noticed this: https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...40f25251e5.jpg Look at the knobs I went ahead a did some searching on the forum and found out that the knobs are different because certain RHD cars came with auto climate control. (Check out this threads: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...panel-1078581/ https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...ntrol-1015831/ I don't think anyone has successfully retrofitted a LHD car with the auto climate control, but I don't see why the control wont fit a LHD car. The auto knobs look much better than the regular knobs so I had the Idea of creating some made out of brushed aluminium. I have access to a CNC mill and can easily create them in Solidworks. If anyone has a auto climate control dash with knobs would you be willing to sell it to me, or maybe letting me borrow it so I can create the metal knobs? I was thinking of creating a group buy for them if people are interested. |
I have never seen those knobs on any FD. What year were they offered?
|
Yeah, the Auto X and Touring X had this option. I got it working on my old UK FD, but decided against using it in the end.
|
I've only seen these on FD's from the UK.

There's a couple of extra sensors, different harnesses...and they're known for regularly going kaput.

I parted out a 92 RHD automatic that had that set-up. There is/was a larger control box behind the control panel fascia. I would guess there would be some addition automatic actuators in the heater/cooler underdash boxes, but have not inspected closely (yet).

Yeah I've seen the control panel behind the cover. I really need to get the specs for the knobs and get a good feel for the rotation clicks to be able to replicate them. I should be able to make plastic pieces just like OEM; I really want to make some brushed aluminum pieces either dark gray/black. I can not stand the look of the regular ones, they look so outdated and cheap.

There is a guy selling rotor shaped replacement knobs on ebay.

My temperature control switch went rubbery. I obtained a replacement, but it turned out the that the problem was just that the washer/nut behind the switch knob had come loose. Two minute fix with needle-nose pliers. The rubbery feel was the wires twisting inside and causing the switch knob to spring back.
