Buying back my old FD / rebuild
 

Hey all. Sold my old FD about 7 years ago. Looking to possibly buy her back off of the owner! I have some questions.

Its a 93 with about 125k. Sold in 2010 for 11k running. It had most basic bolt ons with the stock twins. It had all of the cooling mods. The body was not perfect but pretty good for a 93. The previous owner drove it about a month and the clutch and motor went. He told me the apex seals went. I told him to prepare for these two issues as the clutch was OEM and car had 309 hp on ORIGINAL motor.

Fastforward. He wants 12k... which I felt was pretty unreasonable for a non-moving car. I called a few places about 2-3 years ago to get an idea what a rebuild would cost. I was getting quotes of about 3-5k roughly. Also, the turbos have never been rebuilt.

I felt the car would be valued around 5-7k. I also indicated I was slightly concerned what else could be wrong now that the car has just been sitting in a garage not running for all these years. I was thinking it would cost be about 15k total when all is said and done to buy the car and address all the issues. What would you value the car at?

Opinions/suggestions would greatly be appreciated!

To clarify I am looking to buy back my old FD from the guy I sold it to 7 years ago. He wants 12k which I would never pay. 12k for a non-moving RX-7 is way to steep. My thoughts on value were 5-7k. and another 5-7k for the rebuild and other misc items it may need as its been in storage for 7 years.

Need much more info:

Specific mods, color, interior color, base, touring or r1

If it's a black r1 in good shape then I'm interested at 12k LOL

93 SSM, touring, red interior, intake, exhaust, downpipe, PFC, PFS intercooler, greddy pulley kit and elbow. Basic stuff.

Since he knows it's your old car and you may be wanting it for sentimental value that may color the pricing.

That said, you have to decide if THAT PARTICULAR FD is worth the hassle of having a lopsided negotiation.

No way you should pay more than you sold it for to get a non-running car that sounds like it's been sitting for years. Time takes a huge toll - rusty brakes, rusty gas tanks, etc. You're looking at a lot of hidden expenses. May be worth bringing that all up with the guy when you come in with that lowball offer.

10k minimum. 12k is not at all unreasonable and I suspect he could sell it in 30 days here on this forum IF it's in good shape.

Street values:
PFC 600
PFS SMIC 600
Intake and exhaust 1k
etc.....

Good luck but if you can get it for 10k and the car has been kept in a garage etc.... that's a steal :icon_tup:

Values are up considerably from 2010.

And that's actually a decent price considering one with 30k miles sold for 32k plus 5% auction fee not long ago. That buyer got hammered though IMO.

Most valuable FD is likely a base CW. Then PEP CW, then....CW.....CW.........LOL

MOFOs love a white FD.

It's not too late and values are only up about 5 to 10k in the FD world.

I just bought a really nice bone stock 94 VR touring with 16k miles.

As long as this economy is acting a fool then so will I LOL.

One day they will all be unicorns and then the values will really get interesting :egrin:

So will maintaining them with a lack of original parts. I'm building my own aluminum forge.
